In reference to an inquiry in the kps digest today about the KinKs at Jones Beach, Long Island, NY....
September 15, 1989 was one date for a KinKs show at Jones beach, Can't remember who opened for them but I did see the Indigo Girls open for somebody so that could have been the night but I thought John Eddie was the opener for that show. I'm not always in my seat for the openers, I'm usually somewhere causing trouble..! At this particular Jones beach show I showed up about 2 in the afternoon, I had just got a new car that year a Black Corvette Convertible and had the NY license plates that read " THEKINKS" on it, so when I drove into the beach parking lot I drove right up to the back stage gates where the trucks, limo's ect...went and they didn't even ask me questions or who i was they just opened the gate and let me drive back there and park where the limo's, buses, and equipment trucks were. Ray arrived first by himself about an hour or so later and got out of the car and walked over to me checking out the car and I can't remember everything he said but I do remember him saying specifically...don't let my brother drive this or don;t give Him the keys, I don't remember his exact words but I knew what he meant. Sure enough after everyone got there in the late afternoon, the band was on stage starting the sound check but where was Dave??? Talking with me about the car and wanting to drive it...I was saved when Ron Delsner the promoter actually started paging Dave from the stage and said something about me too, like Get Frank out of here! I thought he was mad at me, but he was joking around. To this day he his backstage at most of Ray's shows in the NYC area, including the recent Beacon show, where we talked for a short time after he breaks my chops first. Something's never change, and he is still a character! Another thing I remember that night was that after the show at a backstage party Dave's daughter Lana and wife Nancy were there, and possibly other family members but I'm not sure. I remember there be a lot of people there and Ray looking a little annoyed having to answer the same questions over and over again.

It's amazing how many shows The Kinks, played over here in the US in every small to medium size venue, theatres, college gyms, playhouses, small clubs, bars, even high schools...not even mentioning all the bigger arena type shows and venues. We really are a very luck group of fans to have had so many opportunities to see our heroes play. The number of college shows alone through the early and mid 70's was my ticket to be able to see the hundreds of shows I did. And if you combine that with all the solo Ray and Dave shows it's no wonder we're all still alive, or at least me anyway...
