;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Hello from a "day 1" aussie fan of the KINKS. It's real cool that after so many moons I actually found the official site board of one of my fave bands. Since way back when there was the 'eternal' battle between The Beatles and The Stones, I just had to find something in between.....The KINKS, although I love both of the bands above too. But the KINKS had that quid that I loved. Neither the Beatles nor the Stones ever wrote a song as deeply meaningful and truly 'psychedelic' as Waterloo Sunset......
"Dirty old river, must you keep rolling Flowing into the night People so busy, makes me feel dizzy Taxi light shines so bright But I dont need no friends As long as I gaze on waterloo sunset I am in paradise
Every day I look at the world from my window But chilly, chilly is the evening time Waterloo sunsets fine
Terry meets julie, waterloo station Every friday night But I am so lazy, dont want to wander I stay at home at night But I dont feel afraid As long as I gaze on waterloo sunset I am in paradise
Every day I look at the world from my window But chilly, chilly is the evening time Waterloo sunsets fine
Millions of people swarming like flies round waterloo underground But terry and julie cross over the river Where they feel safe and sound And the dont need no friends As long as they gaze on waterloo sunset They are in paradise
Waterloo sunsets fine"

Hi good people......I don't really have an absolute fave kINKS album.....you know why? Because there is NOT one single song in their entire discography that I don't like. Each song has a certain magic to it...in it's own little way. I can add that some fans don't like the "Low Budget" period, but I do. I can see the same 'ol Kinks sound coming thru from their early albums...the Kinks knew how to "update" themselves but remaining true to their origins esp when writing the songs. That's what makes the BIG diff between excellent bands and wimpy ones.

Hey Robert, good to have you here. Low Budget was the time period when I first discovered the Kinks. I like all periods but the late 60's has to be my fave.

Robert, I too have always been a big fan of the Beatles, and Stones, and still am.
However, in 1966 I was turned on to Face To Face, and there was no looking back.
I was really impressed with the direction the Kinks took in the second half of the sixties. Face To Face, Something Else, VGPS, and Arthur were magnificent and completely original albums.
Ray and Dave have always been a great team.
Welcome to the board!
Have you read Ray's book X Ray? I believe there are some interesting observations in there regarding The Beatles.
