I'm absolutely devastated by this loss. I'd just received his new album, Blackstar. Now as I listen to it, it seems full of messages from beyond the grave. Apparently he knew he was dying and wanted to go out like a comet. As indeed he did.

I saw a pic of him when I opened up yahoo this morning and was thinking he still looks young or that's an old pic. I did not check out the article and then Tim told me later 'oh no, David Bowie' died. I had heard about a new album but had no idea he had a battle with cancer for a year and a half. I saw reviews that mentioned, like you indicated Holly, that the lyrics were peppered with farewell messages. It's really sad. I think about the myriad of irons he had his hand in musically and there's really no one like him. I got the Nuggets 2 box and he was on there as Davy Jones and the article I just read online said he did change his stage name in response to the rise of the Monkees' Davy Jones.
I'll be getting out some Bowie today and look to get Blackstar.

Very, very sad news. David was a great artist and creative genius. He also loved the Kinks.

A giant has left the building!
To awake to the news that David Bowie is no longer with us has been utterly shocking. His influence on music was monumental. He owned every stage he walked on. What an amazing artist. He and Mick Ronson are now reunited.
His final album „Blackstar“ was planned as a farewell gift to fans. Listen to David's latest single „Lazarus“ – it says it all!
R.I.P. David Bowie! You will be sorely missed!

Rockin' 1000 - Rebel Rebel
The best David Bowie Tribute so far this year – he would have adored and loved it!
Thanks to Italy for a great idea brilliantly executed!

I teared up a bit over this today. Bawled when I first heard the news (whilst I was listening to The Man Who Sold the World...).
