What is the differnce between this and the picture box set of a few years back? I have that one and can't really justify this one. How about a box containing a few full concerts spanning the 1970-1978 era kinks?

Donl, I have not done my own personal research to answer your question but I did just happen to be reading a discussion topic called 'Details' on amazon.com under the listing for this boxset today. Someone said that this particular box is 'supposed' to have 25 tracks that have never appeared before on cd. I have not yet seen what these 25 tracks are or whether it is an accurate assertion. Another person pointed out that the Picture Book still has 6 songs not found elsewhere: 1 hidden quality 2 a gallon of gas (longer studio edit without overdubs) 3 nuclear love (demo) 4 maybe i love you (demo) 5 stolen away your heart (demo) 6 the duke (demo) BTW, it's good to see you checking in as it has gotten almost 'tree falling in the forest and not heard' quiet around here!

i just looked at the track list for this set and it isn't much different than picture box. as for unreleased songs: sometimes they were unreleased for a reason. i was unimpressed by the PB unreleased tracks and haven't listened to them much since getting the box. i am passing on this set and hope for maybe a live box documenting 1970-1978, early "live" performances from both bbc sets(alot of which are the original recordings lip synched to my ears) document the early kinks. one for the road, the road and to the bone document late period kinks. apart from the live disc on showbiz, that stage of the kinks is largely undocumented apart from the 5 disc bbc box and it should be. there was talk that when showbiz gets the deluxe treatment the live carnegie hall shows( i think there were 2 shows)would be on it. heres hoping it happens.
i will try and pop in more often, i always liked it here but facebook is hurting forums like this.
