There is so much to choose from with the Kinks, and Ray and Dave Davies' solo albums.
My favorite Kinks albums are Something Else, Face To Face, Lola vs Powerman, Misfits, Low Budget, Word of Mouth, Think Visual, and To The Bone.
Let's see, favorite Ray solo album is Storyteller. Favorite Dave solo is BUG.
WAS VGPS the album that got you hooked on the Kinks?

I've listened to some of Ray's and Dave's solo stuff and have to say I prefer Dave's independent work! Like a lot of great bands of the 60s/70s, once they entered the 80s, their writing and sound become a bit ... well ... 'cheesy'. But, of course, that is down to personal preference. Lyrics are almost always good though! And yep, VGPS is what got me hooked onto the Kinks, after reading about it in the book 'All the Madmen' by Clinten Heylin.

I also prefer Dave's solo work. But I consider Ray the greatest songwriter of all time.
That book sounds interesting. Would you tell me more about it.

A little birdy told me that you're a free-lance writer ... I've been reading your blog and have to say I love your style of writing and the music you write about. Some of which I newly discovered on your blog. Great stuff!
