Hello my Kinksian brothers and sisters!
Hope all is well on the Animal Farm.
Our boys the Rolling Stones are up and touring again....the recent success of the 50th anniversary shows in London/NYC will undoubtedly mean more shows in the coming new year with Mick Taylor and Bill Wyman! I am giddy.
90 K views already! This baby's going viral!
A few questions/comments:
1. Not being a kinkaholic, I have to ask the age old question: Will Ray and Dave ever get the band back together again? If the Police can do it, and the Stones can bring Mick T and Bill back, surely the Kinks can hit the road. Is it the whole Dave vs Mick Avory thing?
2. What the #@!$ is Ray doing associating with what we in the Stones Universe call "The Armpit of Rock n Roll"?
3. Anyone have the clip of Ray and Mumford and Sons doing "This Time Tomorrow/Days" on Jools Holland? Days is my favorite Kinks tune and this version is AMAZING!

Hi Starbuck I can try and help you out with 1 and 3 - 1. This is from the BBC website, regarding a recent radio interview RD did - '' Asked by the BBC about a possible Kinks reunion, Ray Davies likened the brothers's relationship to a boxing match: "It's like Rocky Graziano coming out for one last round with Sugar Ray Robinson. You've gone 14 rounds, you've got to come out for the 15th. You glaze over at the prospect but it's the one round you just might win." He added that the brothers were still "in that long minute" between rounds.'' So make of that what you will! 3. Think this is what you are looking for -

Great to see you round these parts again, Starbuck! I wouldn't hold my breath for a Ray and Dave reunion, but like you say, if the Stones can get Mick T back, there's hope for us all. I'll confess, I haven't paid as much attention as I should to the Stones reunion, as I have been distracted by the reunion of Graham Parker and the Rumor -- the entire original group (who else can say that?) back together again after 31 years, doing tons of brilliant new material (compared to -- ahem -- "Doom and Gloom"?) and playing better than ever.
I'll admit, I was a little flummoxed by Ray's association with Bon Jovi, not to mention his Metallica duet. (Really, Ray? REALLY?) I was trembling in fear that he'd bring on the Eagles next. But the ways of Ray are always mysterious and impossible to predict. That's one of the many reasons why I continue to be a Ray Davies fan -- you just never freakin' know what he's gonna do next.

I agree Holly about never knowing what Ray will do next... I never would've expected him to open up Konk for an art show, or on a much lesser scale... stick chewing gum in his ear during a recent radio interview! As for the duets album (See My Friends) I don't really see it as that big of a deal if fans don't rate it that highly. It's not like anyone really misses out on 'new' Ray material by not listening to it. If folks don't like the duet versions there are plenty of other versions to choose from - the Kinks originals, live recordings, BBC versions, choral renditions etc. I personally like some of the duets, but some aren't quite to my liking.

Holly!
Kudos on the word "flummoxed". First time this year I've heard that one used.
There is no excuse for someone with Ray's pedigree to be associated with the Bon Jovi/Sambora riff raff. A bit like Hemingway writing a short story with Daneille Steele, no? Sickening.
I was thinking that some promoter would drive a truckload of money up to the Davies' door during the family Christmas party some year....but I am afraid that the Kinks' former tour issues would prevent that from happening. They wouldn't draw the likes of what the Stones, Who, Macca and the rest would draw. Would they therefore be passed over? With all Kinks still living save Quaife (right?), it could be a real reunion.
I can't get that Jools Holland clip in my region! $#@!

Next time I get a truckload of money, I'll try your scheme, Starbuck!
Hope you enjoyed this Stones reunion/anniversary tour. It was fun. I'm not holding my breath for the Kinks to do the same, but then, they've never been like anybody else.

Greetings Mr Starbuck! Good to see you visiting Kinkdom again. I still fondly remember visiting your forum during "Kinks Week". In fact, I have your former admins avatar pic of the GI Joes and their conquest saved and revive it every so often on my Facebook page. It always invites questions including one from Dave Davies. A former workmate of mine caught the boys at Barclays Center and the Saturday show at Prudential Center. I call him the Seventh Stone (since Ian Stewart was already the Sixth). As for Ray & Dave having a reunion its very doubtful, expescially if it involves them working together in a studio. Dave once posted on his message board that "he'd rather be locked in a room with Hannibal Lechter".

Starbuck wrote:"There is no excuse for someone with Ray's pedigree to be associated with the Bon Jovi/Sambora riff raff. A bit like Hemingway writing a short story with Daneille Steele, no? Sickening." i agree with starbuck, in fact the whole duet thing was unneccessary. i doubt it brought many new fans into the fold and don't know how well it sold. i got a 3 songs from itunes but it was the first album/cd of ray/kinks that i didn't go out of my way for. there is the threat of new music from ray in 2013, but it was supposed to be out in 2012 so time will tell.

Im no big fan of Bon Jovi/sambora either.
Ray is the greatest songwriter of all time.
