"I just think that at that point Ray had stopped listening to other people's judgments, and maybe he let some stuff through that was personally meaningful to him but didn't quite connect with his listeners."
This is what I love best about Ray, Dave, and all my favorite artists...that they do JUST that! Even if I don't love an album, I am SO glad they made the most honest music they could! And the Phobia album connected with me from the moment I first heard it. I guess you could say I'm not like everybody else.

From the last interview I have read about Ray Davies about the band's reunion and the band's new album, he said ... that many songs that he was going to complete the new album would be songs he had done at that time from the early and mid-nineties.

Thanks for the wonderful news, LD! Maybe I'll get to hear the songs Ray mentioned in the liner notes to the US version of the "To The Bone" album!
This reminds me of when three of the Replacements got back together for two new songs in the 2000s (you know, so that a huge fan still has to buy the "best of" collection for new tracks!). The main singer/songwriter did the same thing for at least one track...he said he always kept the song (written around the time Replacements ended in 1991), planning to record it with them if they ever got together.
The only way I could be happier about this Kinks news is if we still had the wonderful Jim Rodford and Ian Gibbons, and if the band then went on the road with the equally wonderful Bob Henrit and Mick Avory taking turns (or drumming at the same time).

Excellent idea Entertainment! The band live again with the equally wonderful Bob Henrit and Mick Avory taking turns (or drumming at the same time)?
Expect the unexpected!

I really do wish we still had the whole 1996 line-up to return to, while still being thankful for more music from Ray & Dave.
I'm glad you like the Bob & Mick idea!
Mick & Bob have played together before:
