These cats have their say too! Stray Cat Strut - Stray Cats Good follow-up to the Monkees song, John! I like this one a lot, I was telling Uncleson recently as he brought them up on another thread. My dad introduced me to them and bought me a Best Of compilation. I think Donny likes this one too! ;D You're welcome Sleepy! Yes, the Stray Cats had some very good stuff! They blew on the scene in the early 80s with Rock This Town that rocked my world; it's great! Setzer was in the Honeydrippers with Robert Plant, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, and Nile Rodgers of Chic; a band that covered old standards like their big hit 'Sea of Love' and 'Rockin' At Midnight'! Setzer later helped lead a swing revival with his Brian Setzer Orchestra and he had a cool band called the Brian Setzer 68' Comeback Special which put out a rockabilly record called Ignition that I have. FYI, 68 Comeback Special refers to Elvis Presley's huge tv 'comeback' supernova extravaganza in 1968!

Matt Sharp left Weezer and formed a retro 80s band in the mid 90s (80s were already retro )! The Rentals had a few fun tunes; this is the most well known!

I think this may qualify as a sort of novelty song; certainly fun, and creative lyrically and musically! This was a remake featuring Johnny Cash as the narrator/voice of light! Travis Tritt was a good choice as the Devil!
Devil Went Down to Georgia - Mark O'Connor featuring Charlie Daniels, Johnny Cash, Travis Tritt, & Marty Stuart

John, I'm sorry I haven't added much to this thread lately, I've just not been feeling so good Tommorow I'd like to watch some of the fun things you've added here, and to the Power Pop thread. I have things in mind that I could add here but thought I'd like to watch a few of your videos before I post anything!

That's fine Sleepy but don't feel rushed! We look forward to your contributions here! Tim just added a nice Paul Westerberg tune on Power P from an early 90s solo record! There's been some good stuff added but they'll be there just as much tomorrow as they are today!

I've been pretty busy this evening, John, but I did find time to watch some videos here and over on the Power Pop thread Thanks for reminding me what a great song Friends Of P by the Rentals is! I remember you posting that on the Power Pop thread and it's a very fun song. The way Matt Sharp 'plays' the guitar in that video is so funny, and I just love the way his expression never changes! And how could you not the love the incredibly catchy sound of thosde keyboards/synthesizers? And thank you for the interesting Stray Cats info John! Of course Turning Japenese is a great addition to this thread, you know I really like that song Great performance by Weird Al with Yoda - I've heard that before but not for a long time. I wonder if Ray's ever heard it? What was all that weird stuff before the last chorus!? Very odd but rather entertaining! ;D

So I came up with quite a few daft things to post! (I have more I could add but I'll hold off for now.)
Firstly I thought I'd add some Moldy Peaches stuff as most of the songs I've heard by them are pretty daft! There's always been something I like about 'em though. I'm pretty sure they could sing/play better if they wanted but I think they choose not too. Anyway, here's a couple by them that I really like -
Moldy Peaches - Lazy Confessions
Moldy Peaches - Nothing Came Out
Here's a song by the feamle singer in MP, Kimya Dawson. I just love this song! I like Kimya, she seems like she might be quite child like by the way she sings. This song featured on the film Juno - its rather silly! ;D
Kimya Dawson - Tire Swing

One oif my very favourite comedies is the Mighty Boosh - its very surreal and the characters are rather odd! Most episodes featured at least one song. I always liked the quirky songs main charcters Vince and Noel did!
Here's a couple -
Mighty Boosh - Ice Flow
This one maybe makes more sense if you know a bit of C-ockney lingo!
Mighty Boosh - The Hitcher
Probably not to everyones taste but I always loved this show! I think you need to have a slighty odd sense of humour to appreciate it though!

Tim says there is a name for it; he's gonna look it up and get some info on it! I'm glad you enjoyed the performance; I found it better than the record; the music is sharper and crisper and his vocal is very good! You're welcome on the Stray Cat info and The Vapors vid! Yes, Sharp's 'playing' and entrenched expression are cool! I always found the 80s synths/keys to be so fun I couldn't resist them either!

Sleepy, I clicked on these little skit videos before I watched your music vids by chance. I really seemed to catch 'the drift' of the Ice Flow one quicker. I really liked the fellow in the red outfit right off the bat as it reminded me of Flash Gordon. I liked the little dance they were doing left to right and the video ending with a snowball to the face. I think the guy in the wooly hat starts off saying 'the arctic has no respect for fashion' which I found funny in relation to the guy in reds ridiculous outfit! It seems to me that there may be some wanking towards the seriousness of nature documentaries or something going on here! ? I was entertained by the whole rap ie the 'little Johnny frostbite' and 'they call me tundra because I move like an arctic lizzard' bits. I like the leadup to the Solo Polo vision line in the Hitcher! The flute music was amusing to me! 'Have a cuppa tea, have a cuppa tea' ! Thanks for posting these Sleepy!

Moldy Peaches - Lazy Confessions
I just caught this one before bed! This band is pretty irreverent in their musical approach and their humor! I personally took to the line; I'm goin' fishin' 'cause I'm on a mission! Also 'My shrink says I'm witty' caught my chuckle bone! I'll check the others out soon! Thanks for posting these Sleepy!

Kimya Dawson - Tire Swing
Pretty nice Sleepy! Kimya seems like she would be child like; this kind of reminds me of a nursery tune for young adults ! The line about ending up in Michigan caught my ear; a nice place I'm sure; I'd like to visit without the use of a wrong turn one day!

John, I'm glad you seemed to like those Mighty Boosh sketches - that show has me in hysterics! The line about the Artic having no respect for fashion is because Vince (the guy in the red outfit) is obsessed with his image and wears some pretty way-out clothes! The other guy, Howard, has no interest in fashion. Vince looks different in every episode, sometimes he dresses punk, goth or hippie style and other times I don't know what look he's trying to go for! ;D I love the line about the artic lizzard too! I wasn't sure if you'd get the C-ockney one - and I wasn't sure you'd know of Polo's! The Moldy Peaches/Kimya Dawson solo stuff does verge on being quite child like - but that appeals to me! They're certainly never gonna be on a par with Ray when it comes to lyrical ability but I do find some of there stuff quite charming! I think you might be surprised when you hear the Adam Green (Kimya's singing partner in the Moldy Peaches) stuff I posted in the P Pop thread - its quite different! I have more fun things in mind that I'll add soon
