Good point Mr Songbird. Here in Chicago it was fighting in the streets...I was fifteen at the time.........and I was very concerned about revolution, drugs and girls. Beggars banquet and The Stones covered that for me.
But Ray, dave and The Kinks were more personal in that they sang to my inner feelings: David Watts, Waterloo Sunst for example, or Animal farm and Walter. They did their own thing, and didnt really care about folowing the Stones or Beatles.
In 69 my father, cousin and myself drove down to see them at The Aragon

At that time I was a young schoolgirl and if it wasn't playing on my little AM radio, I was oblivious to anything else. The Kinks did not appear on my AM dial again until Lola. I would not discover VGPS until my HS days when a very cool music pal turned me onto Soap Opera. The rest is history.

I also had one of those little AM radios and as soon as I was back from school, it was turned on WPTR, 77 WABC or other stations from the US that could be tuned in way up here in Québec. And I know what ''around the dial'' means , believe me ! ;D

you didn't have any top 40 radio in Canada, Kinkcan? Did your Mum like the Kinks back in the day, Sleepy? BTW, how did you become such a kinkaholic?

No, my mum wasn't a massive fan of 60's music when she was younger Smiley, she was born in 1960 and during her teenage years she was a fan of bands like Meatloaf, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden and Judas Priest. She did really enjoy the Ray Davies show that she went to with me though. Not long after she bought a Best Of The Kinks cd that she sometimes plays in the car She now loves YRGM as she likes heavy music, and likes Autumn Almanac as she finds it quite funny! ;D I guess you might say that I'm a relatively new fan, I bought my first Kinks Cd at 18 (A Best Of compilation) I'd heard a few of their songs on the radio and I remember being pleasantly suprised to discover that I knew a majority of the songs on the comp At 19 I remember hearing Shangri-La on an advert and I loved it! My boyfriend at the time informed me that it was the Kinks and thought that I'd enjoy the VGPS album, which he had. He was a bit older then me and was a fan of 60s music. He played me the album and I was blown away by it so he bought me a copy for my birthday. I fell in love with their music after hearing that album and decided that I wanted to hear more so I bought Something Else - and I continued buying their albums until I had them all

Montréal had a few english speaking stations but outside the big city all the other stations were licensed as french speaking stations and mostly played french songs. Listen to this ! ;D
