I think that the adverb "underrated" is overused.
Underrated is something or somebody which/who is not good enough! And as far as I'm concerned there are only good or very good Kinks songs, but not underrated ones.
Maybe undervalued or underappreciated yes, but underrated? - No.

An example I like is when Roger Daltrey was told by an interviewer that Quadrophenia is an underrated album, and Roger said something like, "Underrated by whom? It's not underrated, it's just less known than Tommy. But people who know Quadrophenia usually appreciate it, often connecting with it more than Tommy."
Again, that's not his quote, it's just the main idea of it. If anyone finds it, please post it, thanks!
To me, the album The Final Cut (written by Roger Waters, performed by Roger and Pink Floyd) is the best album ever made by Pink Floyd (tied with their debut with Syd Barrett, The Piper At The Gates of Dawn). The Final Cut is underrated, because it's so very deep and meaningful, but whenever Pink Floyd fans discuss it, most of them don't appreciate it at all. So, since they know the album, but don't like it, I consider that album very underrated, because they don't rate it as highly as it deserves! But hey, at least I appreciate it, and I know I'm not the only one.

And you know I agree with you about the Kinks, Martin! After all, my little quote under my icon (as of this posting) is "I don't dislike any Kinks song, I simply like (or love!) some more than others."

No probs Entertainment! Love the quintessence of Roger Daltrey’s statement! Thanks for bringing it up! Pink Floyd’s „The Final Cut“ is a fine and impressive record. Bearing in mind that it consists of material from „The Wall“ sessions and newer material from 1982 it is surprisingly even. Basically a perfect Roger Waters‘ solo album.
