Friedom, I understand being chilly after being burned but keep in my mind ebay is only as good as the seller you are purchasing from. It's a third party platform, afterall. Look closely at the seller rating for the last year or so. Usually, even if there is a problem, a seller with a very good feedback history would take care of it. I've found a lot of great things on there; and many on the cheap without cheap service. Like anything, it's possible it could be your enemy or your friend, but with some savy buying, it could be mostly a friend! I'm sorry that you had a bad experience! I've never had one there but I did have some on the half.com site ebay owns and luckily they have a buyer protection process. On ebay, I assume you have to go through paypal to try to recoup losses? That being said, I know that amazon (USA at least) has a very good process in order if you have a problem; and when I've had a problem there, the seller usually assisted quickly to resolve it anyway! I'd hate for you to miss out on anything cool friedom!

Bonjour! Thank you for your comments and advices. My bad experience has nothing to do with E.bay i think, as the dvd i received was not the one supposed to be in the packing, the cover was the right one but the dvd something totally different! It could have been a pick and pack mistake, but instead of a Jimi Hendrix concert, i received a documentary film on reptiles!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hard to proove! I will investigate on ebay and amazon and let u know if i find my happiness with them

I do not consider this the best rock opera, but it has a place in my heart. That would be 'The Kinks Present a Soap Opera.' Plus, the tv movie makes it all the better:

I love the Soap Opera album, Jay! I've seen quite a few negative things written about the TV film (Starmaker) but I remember the first time I saw it and I really liked the story. It's a little cheesy but I don't mean that as a negative, it sure has it's charms and it's good fun My fave song from the album/film is You Make It All Worthwhile, such a sweet song.

I bought Soap Opera as a 15 year old back on 1980 and it was the first Kinks album that disappointed me (it's the only vinyl album I have that still has its cellophane wrapper on it . Since then I've grown to appreciate it more and Dave's live performance of Ordinary People is one of my favourite tracks of all time. I've been reading through this thread and I agree with Uncleson about Face To Face; that album definitely had a thread running through it. And I can say for certain that I'm not as much a fan of ducks on the wall as mrlennie ;D

Wow, still in in it's wrapper Chris - you fetch a bit for that on eBay! ;D As I said, I've read a few negative reviews of the album but I liked it from the first time I heard it. Ducks On The Wall amuses me! I've thought before of getting some for my wall as a little tribute, I guess that means I have 'the most deplorable taste!'' ;D

I never have been able to get into it.

I originally never enjoyed Soap Opera, but when I watched Starmaker it all changed. Although it is a bit cheesy and tacky, but that is what makes it awesome. It was created for the sake of art! You are spot on, that is my favorite song on the album also. Even though I have never had Shepherd's pie.

I think both are quite fun songs (like Ducks On The Wall better) but I appreciate that we all have differing opinions!

I love Soap Opera.....might be my favorite of the concept albums.
My favorite (would be) rock opera/story would be Frank Zappa - Joe's Garage
I also think Lou Reed's Berlin is a great, if depressing sort-of story cycle.
