Sleepwalker, here's probably the most well known Plimsouls song besides 'A Million Miles Away'. It's a little Elvis Costello-ish; at his most rocking; I think!

Here's the Plimsouls Peter Case's prior band; with their original of the song Blondie made famous!

One of my fav power pop oriented bands of the 80s was Katrina and The Waves. No lie! Songwriter and guitarist Kimberley Rew formed the band after leaving The Soft Boys. Rew played on the Soft Boys 'A Can of Bees' and classic 'Underwater Moonlight'. Rew has a unique tone and style in his guitar playing that I've always loved! Here's one of their most famous numbers that the Bangles covered to fine effect! Going Down to Liverpool - Katrina and the Waves This was a Top 40 entry for them in the US. Do You Want Crying - Katrina and the Waves Another fave live at the Old Grey Whistle. Red Wine and Whiskey - Katrina and the Waves A couple of fan favs. Sun Street - Katrina and the Waves Que Te Quiero - Katrina and the Waves Tim is trying to upload my fav Waves tune to youtube, 'Tears For Me', so I'll add that later; hopefully!

Tim has been unable to get that song up! I'll post a couple more. This tune almost scaled the charts like 'Walking On Sunshine'; hitting #16 in 1989. A bit risque is the video! That's The Way - Katrina and The Waves This song won the 1997 Eurovision Song Contest for the United Kingdom! Love Shine A Light - Katrina and the Waves

John, I really enjoyed listening to some of the stuff that you've posted too! And I'm glad you liked those Letters To Cleo covers I posted, I like that band a lot and have several of their albums I'm suprised too that the Primitives song I posted got some dislikes on YouTube - Its a great song and they're a great band! I've yet to hear a song by them that I don't like! I enjoyed the Gin Blossoms song you posted, its just a shame that I had to sit through an ad for Lady Gaga's new album before I could watch it though!! That Plimsouls song you posted was really great! I'm glad you posted something else by them, its a shame that the Cd you mentioned by them is so expensive as I would have considered getting it, if it had been cheaper I really loved the Squeeze track you posted! I don't think I'd actually heard that one before I knew I'd like the Candyskins track before I listened to it, even though I hadn't heard it before! I'm still enjoying the Fun? album a great deal I could see the resemblence between the singer from the Candyskins voice and that of Tommy Keane, The video you posted by Tommy wasn't available to me but I made a point of searching for it on YouTube as I was curious. Of course I loved Into The Heart Of Love by The Mighty Lemon Drops - as you know I got the Laughter album and that songs definately a stand - out track IMO I can't believe you posted The Card Cheat by The Clash! Its one of my very favourite Clash songs, I often end up listening to that track twice when I have the London Calling album on! So It Goes by Nick Lowe was a great choice too! I got to know that song after hearing it on Rock 'N' Roll Highschool, the film starring the Ramones Its a cool song Also great choice with The Killing Moon by Echo And The Bunneymen - I love that one Since you posted Head on by The Jesus and Mary Chain (great song BTW ) I'll have to post an excellent cover of that song by the Pixies (I'll add that below in my next post, along with some other contributions ) Glad you like that Gin Blossoms tune sleepwalker! The album 'New Miserable Experience' is probably a penny wonder; filled with hit tracks and a fine 90s version of power pop! Sorry my Keene link didn't work but I'm glad you were able to seek it out! I added another classic Plimsouls tune and The Nerves original version of 'Hanging on the Telephone' for you! I hadn't heard the Squeeze tune I posted much; until I got a best of and could listen to it as much as I'd like! Glad I introduced you to it! I'd never listened to the London Calling album until a few months ago when Tim got it; and Card Cheat became one of my Clash favorites instantly! I always loved Lowe's early solo tunes, 'So It Goes' and 'Heart of the City' which had a little more edge to them! Glad you thought it was a nice addition here! Sorry to put you through the Ga Ga Gag Gag reflex torture, btw! Glad you like my choice of the Echo and the Bunnymen tune! I'll be checking out the Pixies cover and your other selections soon!

Here's a great catchy number by Lit. I bought their album, A Place In The Sun, after hearing this - Lit - My Own Worst Enermy I thought I'd add something from Nirvana's Nevermind album (Even though I'm sure we've all heard it before!) Although their labelled as a grunge band, a lot of the songs on Nevermind have a real bubblegum pop sound to them, IMO. Kurt desribed Nirvana's sound as hard pop - rock and I think this song demonstrates that! - Nirvana - Lithium Here's another great song from Weezer, one of my favourites Weezer - Susanne Here's a classic 80's song by Jane Wiedlin - Jane Weildlin - Rush Hour I thought I'd add one om my favourite tracks from the Candyskins Fun? album Candyskins - House At The Top Of The Hill And I just love this Mighty Lemon Drops song from the Sound album - Mighty Lemon Drops - My Shadow Girl I saw The Buzzcocks live a few years ago and loved every minute of it! I remember them playing this favourite of mine that night - Buzzcocks - Love You More And heres another great punk/pop song - Eddie & The Hot Rods - Do Anything You Wanna Do I've been looking into two bands recently, Voice Of THe Beehive and The Darling Buds, both bands have a similar sound to The Primitives. I'll add a song by each Voice Of The Beehive - I Say Nothing The Darling Buds - Burst Here's a fun catchy song by Feeder - Feeder - Buck Rodgers And finally I'll add that Jesus and Mary Chain cover I mentioned The Pixies - Head On I finally got around to watching all those. These are some excellent choices Sleepwalker, most I'm familiar with but a few cool new bands to check out. I knew the Lit video, a fun song from a group I should explore more. I loved their other big video (w/Pam Anderson), Miserable (and it wasn't only because of Pam, it's a clever song). Lithium is one of my favorite Nirvana songs. I had never heard that Weezer song, another excellent one from them. The Jane Wiedlin, as John said, was one of the best songs of the 80's (great video with the dolphin too). House At The Top Of The Hill is one of my favorite tracks from Fun, though it's so hard to choose favorites on that amazing CD. I'd forgotten about My Shadow Girl, definitely one of the top tracks from MLD's Sound album. I knew that Buzzcocks song but didn't actually know it was them who sang it. Great tune. The Eddie & The Hot Rods is a nice surprise find, I'd never heard of them. That Voice of the Beehive song is insanely catchy. I love the "Let It Bee" album title too The Darling Buds are a group I'm familiar with, I have an album by them called Crawdaddy. I uploaded my favorite tune from it and will post later. Btw, the DB song you posted is excellent too. I am familiar with Feeder as well, Buck Rodgers is a rockin good song and I'm glad you mentioned them. Finally, the Pixies Head On cover definitely gives a different spin on that classic track. More of a punk feel. The original is one of the best songs of the 90's. Thank you for posting all these cool tracks Sleepwalker! I will try to go back to others you have posted in this thread, as well as John's. Good work everybody, this is an excellent thread!

Here is that Darling Buds song I mentioned in my previous post. Love this song, it's catchy and appeals to me for several reasons.

The Capitals are a Canadian power pop band. Their 2005 debut Broadcast One is full of amazing harmonies and catchy tunes. I uploaded my favorite, Tell Me Your Secrets:

Here's a fun band from Portland, Maine, that I just learned about -- The Leftovers. They have a punk edge to them too, but squarely power pop IMO... I really like that Holly! Need to check into this band further...

Since I just saw that Holly saw Marshall Crenshaw the last 2 nights, I thought I'd post one of my fav underrated tunes by him; one I first heard on the This Is Easy 'Best of' cd and I'm not sure was ever released as a finished 'studio product' until his 90s album Miracle of Science!
Starless Summer Sky
And a word to the wise. This Is Easy has been replaced by the Definitive Pop Collection as the best Marshall Crenshaw best of; as it has all 22 tracks from the earlier fantastic compilation and adds 8 more tracks!

Starless Summer Sky is awesome! Definitely one of his best. Yes Tim, I thought it must be one of his definitive tunes when I first got This Is Easy! I then found out it was a song recorded as a demo way back in 1979 as Starlit Summer Sky and was not even widely known (I guess it was to devoted fans)! I'm listening to Susanne by Weezer now and digging it! I see it was a bonus track on the deluxe resissue of the 'Blue Album'! Thanks for filling me in on this one sleepwalker! There is a big rock n roll festival in B'ham this weekend and I believe Weezer played this past evening! I wish I could have been there!

I remember being on 1-45 headed out of Houston when this great song came on my car radio in 1998! When I got to the town of my destination, I ran into the local Hastings record/bookstore and described the song to a clerk! Someone suggested that it might be an Edwin McCain tune! Not really close! Turned out, the song was 'The Way' and the band was an Austin, Texas outfit called Fastball! The tune was from their smash debut record All The Pain Money Can Buy. Here's another hit tune from their debut record! Fire Escape - Fastball
