The musical "80 Days", composed and written by Ray Davies, received awards for "Best Musical" (San Diego Theatre Critics Circle) and production, direction, acting (Brooks Almy and Timothy Landfield), scenery and costumes (Drama-Logue). It was performed between August and October 1988 at The Mandell Weiss Theatre, San Diego. Enjoy!

I really enjoyed listening to these songs this morning, I had never heard any of them before, some of the songs are wonderful! Are these recordings available to buy on a CD or not? I've heard about this musical before and did try and find out if they were available anywhere but didn't have any luck

You're very welcome, Sleepwalker! Regretfully, the musical "80 Days" was never officially released on CD nor on vinyl. I do hope very strongly that one day Ray will either re-record all the songs for official release or give green light for the demo's publication - they are fantastic, aren't they?

Thats a shame Martin I had a feeling they weren't officially realeased but I thought it was worth asking I agree, the songs are fantastic, I'm suprised they were recorded in 1987, I thought they sounded to me more like the songs Ray was singing in the late 60s/ early 70s. Thanks for providing the track listing too Martin

It is totally delightful, one of those forgotten gems I particularly cherish. One of those mysteries that make me love RDD & The Kinks, like the Great Lost Album.
And Sleepwalker you right. They sound like something from the early seventies. Hard to situate them post State of Confusion etc.
I'm not surprised it got prizes even though it ran for such a short time.
It just shows the Genius of RDD. For many others this would have been their Magnus Opus, and would have spent half their life pushing it. Imagine if Rice-Lloyd Webber wrote something like this. They'd be capitalizing on the effort worldwide for the next three decades.
Ray apparently entertains himself and moves on.
