I enjoyed it but it seemed dated. Some really weird scenes though. All the dancing and singing..... And pounding on walls while naked. Someone had a good imagination to think this stuff up. Most of the rituals in the film are historical fact. If you watch the bonus materials, it's mentioned that the screenwriter thoroughly researched arcane Celtic practices. And you thought the film was creepy. I do think the film gives modern day Pagans a bad name, though. The ones I've meet are just nice hippies that just want hang out in the woods.

I saw "Spiderman 3" last night. Highly entertaining, but it went a little too long. There were some funny scenes, which was nice to see. Director Sam Raimi's early films were very funny. (Very violent too, though.)

I saw Year of the Dog. Molly Shannon finally got a role with some meat to it, playing a spinsterish secretary who's very attached to her dog, and the way her life changes when he dies. It was written and directed by Mike White, who scripted School of Rock and Nacho Libre. Darker than I expected, but stubbornly quirky -- kinda like Little Miss Sunshine in how it champions the unconventional views and misfits of society, though not as uplifting as LMS. It couldn't find a feel-good ending that was honest to the character, so it went for the feel-good-enough ending. I'd give it a 7.4 outta 10 (in case blamo's reading).

I found out when I went to return it that it has all kinds of extras. Nic, if you haven't seen Frailty go rent it. I'm curious what you think.

If you want to see a real quirky religious cult film, try to dig up "The Brotherhood of Satan" starring character actor Strother Martin (you probably know him as Liberty Valance's main henchman). Unfortunately, it's not broadcast as often as I would like.
On the other end of the spectrum is "Manos - The Hands of Fate", a truly horrible film that got the royal treatment from the good people at Mystery Science Theater 3000 several years back and made it one of the highlights of that serie's episodes. Try to get your hands on the MST3K version - it's priceless.

Tom - I think the extras were longer than the film itself. A fascinating back story. I will have to put "Frailty" in my netflix queue, since you and Mia braved "Wickerman."
CL - I loved MST3K. The title you mentioned sounds familiar, but I will dig it up if I can. One of my favorite MST3K episodes was "The Giant Gila Monster." Hilarious. They had a terrific time with films aimed at teenagers. This one is so absurd I think I would have watched it even without the commentary.

I saw "Fallen Angel" last night, a beautifully photographed film noir. I didn't care for the story, though. Too predictable.

The shrews were great, weren't they? I also loved "Teenagers From Outer Space," while Jeff is partial to "Santa Claus VS The Martians." A great show.

Saw Spiderman last night with the kid. The theatre was packed but we were there 1/2 hour early so got prime seating in the huge theatre of the cineplex that we go to. The screen was almost too big for the room. At times during the action sequences it was hard to follow and a little dizzying. The story was centered on the effects of good and evil on Spidy. A character study really. It had its moments but not the charm and innoncence of the 1st. I say wait for the rental.
