Plus Bela Lugosi in that Ed Wood movie. I'm still surprised when I see Martin Landau in movies, I'm so convinced that he died while making The Ed Wood Story.

Loaned Horrible Bosses from the library. It's the funniest flick I've seen in a long, long time. Jason Bateman, Charlie Day and Jason Sudeikis are perfect as the buffoons with the bosses from hell, and nobody plays a prick any better than Kevin Spacey.

I had a good laugh over that one too, CL. Charlie Day is a riot.

I'm going to rent Hotel Transilvania this weekend.. anyone seen it? Watched this while in bed with the flu over the weekend. Very cute story. the animation was very well done. It did not have the adult inside gags like most animated films do. Sony animation could learn a few things from the success of Pixar in that respect.

Spent the snowed-in weekend with "Stupid. Crazy. Love." Watched it many times, thoroughly enjoyable each time. Steve Carell is just as funny as when he was a news correspondant on 'The Daily Show'. Plus Julianne Moore and Marisa Tomei. My fantasies were working overtime.

Dutifully trying to catch up on all the Oscar movies before the Big Night. Saw Beasts of the Southern Wild (B+), Silver Linings Playbook (B), and Life of Pi (A). Beasts and Silver Linings were thoroughly enjoyable movies, but Lifeof Pi was quite a feat of the imagination, and compelling start to finish. No way it will win any but the technical awards, but I loved it.
Next weekend's assignment: Lincoln, Django Unchained, and Le Miserables.

Lincoln - you know how it will end; Les Miz - you can see it on Broadway. Go with Django Unchained. It's OUTRAGEOUS!

Watched "Let Me In" last night. Based on John Ajvide Lindquist's debut novel 'Let the Right One In' (he's my new fave author - just finished his third novel, 'Harbour' and halfway through his second, 'Handling the Undead'), it's a love story between two twelve year olds, one of which happens to be a vampire. The boy previously was in "The Road" and the girl was in "Kick-Ass", and they both have very promising futures in flm. IMHO, Let Me In is the best vampire flick since the the 1931 Dracula.

OK, I'm ashamed and embarrassed to admit it but I just watched "Human Centipede". I was warned about it, but dammit, I couldn't hold myself back. In a nutshell, mad German surgeon who specialized in separating Siamese Twins kidnaps 2 vacationing American coeds and some random Japanese guy and decides he needs to 'construct' Siamese Triplets. What happens is one of the strangest daisy chains one could imagine. As horrible as this sounds, I couldn't drag my eyes away from watching this --- and wait of it --- there's already a part two and # three is in production.

'Going My Way' (1944) I had forgotten how good this thing was. Been ages since I viewed it. I grudgingly slapped it on expecting all schmaltz and sobriety. But hey now, there was a lot of snappy/wry humor - thanks to the comedic genius of film maker Leo McCarey - and some good songs, too. Post-viewing research reminded me that this was the big hit in the year of its release, including a Best Picture win at the Oscars. Got to check out the sequel 'The Bells Of St. Mary' next. I've read that it was just about as popular. Four Junior Mints.

It was Ms Holly ... But like an accident on the Cross Bronx Expressway, you have to slow down and look.

I'm catching up on Oscar movies too -- saw "Amour" last night. Riveting and very sad. Not sure it would have come across as strongly if I'd waited to see it on DVD -- even a small, quiet movie like this has more impact on the big screen.
Also saw "Side Effects" recently and recommend it -- you think you're watching one kind of movie, then it changes gears and becomes a twisty thriller.
