Well...it was a MAGICAL evening. For those unfamiliar, Tibet usually showcases a very eclectic band of performers. Last nite was no exception. Ranging from moving (the invocation by the MONKS from GOMANG MONASTERY) to inspirational (NAWANG KHECHOG) to Brazilian sambas (MARISA MONTE) to Carolina rock (BAND of HORSES) to TOM VERLAINE, LENNY KAYE & 'those guys', to the beautiful piano of PHILIP GLASS to Celtic fiddle & harp (ASHLEY MacISAAC & PHAMIE GOW) and then to an amazing Star-Spangled Banner by SUFJAN STEVENS & troupe. Not surprisingly, the audience is just as eclectic and responds appropriately to each performance....respectful applause, loud applause and sometimes a cheer or two. When STEVENS introduced RAY, however, as the Grand Finale, the entire hall was electrified. I hadn't been sure what to expect from them, but clearly, there were MANY MANY MANY there who appreciate RAY'S work. You could feel EVERYBODY move forward in their seats. Looking back at the audience, even the highest balcony, I really was overwhelmed by their reaction to RAY coming onstage. Accompanied by BILL SHANLEY (BEAUTIFUL vocals as well) RAY opened with NO ONE LISTEN (and advised he will probably NOT support this summer's Olympics in China! ) and continued with IN A MOMENT. Both were EXTREMELY well-received by the audience. Then, DAYS, LOLA, and by the time he launched ADAAOTN, the ENTIRE HALL was on their feet and rockin'. The entire group of performers then joined RAY on stage and they ALL joined in...even the MONKS!!!!! RAY was beaming and dancing and loving it! If only it could have lasted ALL NIGHT! Wish you ALL coulda been there!

It was wonderful to meet Noisy and Rose. even though the time was all too brief. Good to see Holly, Frank and Andrea. It was a fun evening. I posted my review over at the gray board: raydavies.3.forumer.com/index.php?showtopic=3663&st=0Although Ray won't be watching the Olympics, he did propose a new event--"drag queen steeplechase" .

Very nice to finally meet you also, dave! It was a WONDERFUL evening. Ray had the entire Hall in the palm of his hand! Here's a clip of the Finale with even the Monks rockin' out (ok, they weren't really, but they WERE into it!)

"In a Moment" "No One Listen" Holly where was the Chimay fest? I was waiting for the e-mail! Honestly, I waited in GC for fourty minutes for my daughter who took me by the hand to two subway stops to Carnegie Hall with five minutes before showtime. I took a peak at the first row and didn't see anyone I recognized. Then I proceeded to my seat next to last in parquet.

Ah, we were in the front row, toward the left. Dave K was with us too, until security threw him out for taking pictures. ;D Didn't you see Ray come over to shake Frank's hand toward the end of ADAAOTN?
