Okay, I finally sat down to listen to the whole thing. My track-by-track judging:
Better Things -- could someone put Bruce Springsteen out of his misery?
Celluloid Heroes -- not bad, but Bon Jovi really brings nothing new to the song
Days/This Time Tomorrow -- this Mumford track is just brilliant, it's going straight onto my iPod. I love how it weaves the two songs together -- it deepens my appreciation of both.
Long Way From Home -- and once you've put Bruce out of his misery, Lucinda can go after him. Her voice grates on my ear (which didn't use to be true). At this point in the record I started to wonder if Ray deliberately booked duets with artists whose voices would make his sound better in contrast.
You Really Got Me -- yawn
Lola -- surprisingly good. Who is this Paloma Faith? I like her interpretation of Lola, and I like the interplay between her and Ray.
Waterloo Sunset -- another surprise. Jackson Browne sings this song with real heart and brings a tenderness to it that it didn't have before.
Till the End of the Day -- gotta love the raw energy of Chilton's vocals. This goes onto the iPod too (I've been a fool for Alex Chilton for eons)
Dead End Street -- I hate Amy McDonald's voice too. The bit of chatter at the end is charming, though.
See My Friends -- psychedelic, man! At first I didn't like it -- too cacophonous -- but it is growing on me. This Is Where I Belong -- onto the iPod. I love Black Francis' voice, and it really complements Ray's. I never realized before that this song -- which is after all about "belonging" -- should always be a duet. Who knew it was a buddy song!
David Watts -- I love the 88, but this song is only so-so. Doesn't touch either the original or the Jam version.
Tired of Waiting -- who is Gary Lightbody? He has a gorgeous voice, doesn't he? I like this one -- it makes this song much more plaintive than the Kinks' bitter and fed-up original.
ADAAOTN / Destroyer -- one of my least favorite Kinks songs, and Billy Corgan does not change my opinion. A raucous mess.
Victoria -- Mando Diao? Who dat? This one's meh. Needs Dave's guitar, for one thing.
Moments -- another mess. Is this just on here to attract the French audience (Arno sounds like the French Tom Waits)? I will never listen to this one again.
I'm glad I got this, but except for the few tracks noted above, I probably won't listen to it too often. Still, I can see why Ray did it, and I can only congratulate him on its success.

Glad you at least liked some of the songs Holly! I actually agree with a lot of your comments. I'm not mad on YRGM with Metallica either or Better Things with Bruce Springsteen. Glad you like the Mumford and Sons track and This Is Where I Belong with Black Francis - my 2 favourite tracks! I also love Paloma and Rays version of Lola, shes had a couple of songs in the charts here in England. I have to say that I quite like ADAAOTN/Destroyer with Billy Corgan though. By the way I believe Gary Lightbody is the singer from Snow Patrol

Glad you actually like the same tracks like I do. Aren't Mumford & Sons great?

By the way I believe Gary Lightbody is the singer from Snow Patrol Holly, just think about how many times you heard 'Chasing Cars' a few years ago and you'll know who Snow Patrol is even if you didn't know of/about them or Lightbody!

Well, Snow Patrol definitely got overplayed on the radio stations that are on in my car! But he does have a nice voice, and it suits that song. Sleepwalker, usually I don't mind Billy Corgan, so maybe that track will grow on me.

Holly, I agree with most of what you said here and in your blog. I think the only big difference is that I like YRGM with Metallica. And instead of Tom Waits I'd say Arno sounds like the Belgian Demis Roussos.
I'd also like to add that I think the new version of Moments is so beautifully done by the band and Ray's voice on it sounds just perfect. This collaboration in concrete should have been "Ray Davies with the Ray Davies band" and it would have been awesome, but with Arno it becomes the worst song of the album IMO.

Ray Davies & Paloma Faith - Lola Live at The Royal Variety Performance December 9th 2010. Ray had great fun performing this song together with Paloma. What a voice!
