Who'll Be The Next In Line - Sir Douglas Quintet
Doug Sahm's great 60s Tex Mex rock n roll band was lauded for having a sound that stood up to the Brit Invaders, but here they forgoed trying to beat them and joined 'em so to speak. The records definitely a mover, but sorry for the muddled 45 rpm sound.

Lola - Andy Taylor
I never knew the Duran Duran and Power Station guitarist covered this klassic until I got the cd 'The Ray Davies Songbook'; which I recommend if you can find it for a reasonable price!

You Really Got Me - Robert Palmer
Taylor's old Power Station battery mate does this cover in his more soul reggae style from early in his career.

I Bet You Won't Stay - The Cascades
This is one Kinks song I've never, ever put on any mix tape/cd collection. Just shows how great they were.

Set Me Free - Graham Bonnet
The former Michael Schenker Group and Rainbow metalhead doesn't rain on anybody's parade here, I don't think.

Wish List: I'm trying to track down a Tom Petty performance on a late night show in the last 5 years where Petty covered 'I Gotta Move'. I remember right after this, there was a tv commercial (car commercial?) that came out using the Kinks' original and I wondered if the Petty performance inspired some ad person to use the original song.
I'm also looking for a clip of Elvis Costello's version of 'Days'; SCOTS (Southern Culture On The Skids) version of 'Muswell Hillbilly'; Marianne Faithfull's 'Rosie Won't You Please Come Home' (luuuvvvvv the original!); David Essex' 'Waterloo Sunset'; and Eddi Reader's 'Wonder Boy'. I'm sure there are others, but I'll start there.

Thanks Holly for that vid! I recently looked up WPA and had it in my shopping cart at amazon to get eventually. I got the first Nickel Creek cd (major label one anyways) way back in 2000 after seeing the two wonderful videos of the singles on CMT. Whoa, it's been 10 years already!
Interesting that a song that was nothing but a Kinks demo has been done by so many other artists over the years and was even featured on Dancing With the Stars last year. Didn't Peggy (Fever) Lee originally record it; and the Applejacks and Cher on her debut?

Yes, all three. I believe that Larry Page snuck it away from Ray soon as he heard the demo. Back then, the handlers weren't sure the Kinks were going to make it, so they were hedging their bets by milking Ray's songwriting! I'd highly recommend the WPA album.

Excellent piece of work. Thanks, Benmont!
