I'd like to see Ray do some 50s covers. I think this would be great as well. some of his old favorites. Old Black Magic (?) and the like. He always talked about his influences like Big bill Broonsey (sp).

I once saw The Kinks run through about 30 minutes of 50's covers at a soundcheck during the early 80's ( State of Confusion tour I think ) at the Brenden Byrne Arena in New Jersey...it was great the arena was empty and Ray kept running from the stage back to the middle of the arena where the sound board was playing with the mix and then back to the stage...I remember a few Everely Brothers songs thrown in there...

Ray and Dave doing some Everly Brothers and Eddie Cochran covers would be cool.
Rock and Roll Radio and Honky Tonk Women.....

I'd love to see Ray doing some country songs. Some Hank Williams would be nice. Also Lyle Lovett material -- maybe "An Acceptable Level of Ecstasy" or "Good Intentions." Lyle's got a very Ray-like wry observer thing going on.

Here's the RAMONES song I'd choose for Ray... IT'S GONNA BE ALRIGHT written by Joey Ramone & Andy Shernoff from the Ramones album Mondo Bizarro To our fans far and near We're so glad you could all be here And when life get so-oh-oh hard You make it all worthwhile Screaming, shouting, wham-slam-bam That wild headbanging style This is dedicated to our fans across the world You're the best, most loyalist, and that's for sure When life gets oh so frustrating You make it all worthwhile Gonna have some fun tonight Ain't it great to be alive It's gonna be OK It's gonna be alright It's gonna be that you're the only ones who understand It's gonna be OK It's gonna be alright It's gonna be that you're the only ones who understand Got good feelings about this year All is very well, C.J. is here '92 spells more fun, let's get into gear It's the year of the monkey, gonna be real funky Buy yourself a beer It's gonna be OK, It's gonna be alright, It's gonna be that you're the only ones who understand It's gonna be OK, It's gonna be alright, It's gonna be that you're the only ones who understand It's gonna be alright It's gonna be alright It's gonna be alright It's gonna be OK, yeah, yeah It's gonna be alright, uh, huh It's gonna be that you're the only ones who understand Who understand It's gonna be alright It's gonna be OK It's gonna be alright It's gonna be alright

I vote for more blues out of the bunch... during Ray's early solo West Beth Theatre shows in NYC in the 90's...at an after show get together at Infamous Mexican Bar & Resturant Tortilla Flats in the Village Ray was going bonkers over all these old blues records we had the staff for playing for us

Did You Ever Have To Make Up Your Mind? -- Lovin Spoonful
I can just imagine Ray singing this in his old campy voice...

Sometimes I've felt that there was something undefinable in common between Ray and Dylan (yes IƱaki, believe it or not).
Look at this verse from "Long Distance":
Now the Road Hog's face is turning red Larry's still asleep in bed Romeo he can't get no head at all And the Doctor looks on so annoyed You disappoint me, Mr. Boyd And the Electric Dwarf wishes he was six foot tall
Now Romeo's patience is wearing thin C'mon baby, let me in It's five a.m. and I've been creeping 'round the hall Got no resistance calling long distance You sound so close but your such a long way from home
It sounds right out of "Desolation Row", it even has Romeo in it, just like Bob.
I can Imagine a very wonderfull little EP with Ray doing these four: "I want you", "4th Time around", "She belongs to me" and "Menphis Blues Again"
