I've always felt that you can tell a lot about a band's depth of tallent by the quality of their B sides. Many bands are content to stick a track from their latest album, or some sub-standard twaddle, on the flip side; but others (most notably The Kinks and The Beatles) put out B sides that would easily chart in their own right, and are frequently better than the A sides of other groups. With this in mind (and my love of lists) here are my top 5 Kinks B sides. 1. I Need You 2. Berkley Mews 3. I'm Not Like Everybody Else 4. Polly 5. Big Black Smoke (Breaks my heart that there's no place for King Kong - this week anyway) I'd love to know everyone else's favourites

Great topic Powerman! I guess we are talking mostly of 60s singles, maybe having a list would help:
I Took My Baby Home You Do Something To Me It's Alright I Gotta Move Come On Now Who'll Be The Next In Line I Need You Never Met A Girl Like You Before Where Have All The Good Times Gone? Sittin' On My Sofa I'm Not Like Everybody Else Big Black Smoke Act Nice And Gentle Mister Pleasant Polly She's Got Everything King Kong Mindless Child Of Motherhood This Man He Weeps Tonight Mr Churchill Says Berkeley Mews Rats
My top 5:
1. I'm Not Like Everybody Else 2. Where Have All The Good Times Gone? 3. Mr Churchill Says 4. Berkeley Mews 5. Mister Pleasant
I feel specially sorry for leaving It's Alright and This Man He Weeps Tonight.

Note - see discussion of US vs. UK versions of records. In the US, we don't release singles that don't appear on albums. That's why we such differences in albums for UK and US releases. B-sides, I'm not so sure of, though.

1. Who'll Be the Next in Line 2. She's Got Everything 3. I'm Not Like Everybody Else 4. Mr. Pleasant 5. Sitting In My Hotel (was B-side of Sweet Lady Genevieve in the UK)
Honestly, I don't think of Who'll Be the Next in Line as a B-side; as I recall it got plenty of radio play when it was released.

I think it was an A-side in the US, as Where Have All The Good Times Gone and probably others. Of course if we count the 70s Sitting In My Hotel would be my number 1 or 2, and probably others would be in the list but I don't even know what most B-sides were.

As a matter of fact Mr Pleasant came out as B side of Autumn Almanac in Autmn 1967, but in Spring it had been the A side, and This is where I belong it's B side. Sticking to the 60's, this is my list of 5:
Mr Pleasant This is where I belong King kong I need you She's got everything
