I'm with IƱaki, I believe in general Kinks artwork has not been at the same level as their art. Having said this, Muswell Hillbilies and Preservation II are marvellous and my favorites. I also think Lola and Soap Opera are very cool. L I think that's because they were always doing things on a 'low budget.' But, you'd think that Ray could have called on his art school experience/contacts to improve the cover art within that budget. As for my favorites, I also like The Kink Kontroversy. If you've read Ray's autobiography, you'd know that the guitar featured on the cover was once owned by George Harrison and then stolen at the San Francisco airport on the ill-fated first American tour.

I always liked "Face to Face" It's not particularly brilliant art work' but it's very much "of it's time" with a very sixties psycadelic feel in both the content and the colours. Other art work of the time has a similar feel.

Yes, that lopped-off head at the lower right is straight out of Monty Python! Maybe that's where Terry Gilliam nicked it from.. RD!

My favorite would be the cover of Schoolboys in Disgrace, if it was real life Davies boys rather than cartoon ;D I remember seeing that album in the store as a little kid and being shocked! Ah those innocent days!! I agree that Kinks covers have not reflected the greatness of the music inside. My least fave has gotta be Low Budget (of course, nothing against the foot fetishists on the board ).

Sleepwalker is my No 1. Possibly because it's also my favourite album. Muswell Hillbillies is a close second, mostly because it shows the members of the band in a very unusual and personal way for an album cover. I also like To The Bone and Preservation 2 very much.
The one I like the least is their first album. Very dull.

My two favorite jacket covers are Kontroversy and the German cover of Face to Face. The psychedelic cover (I read) was not the one wanted by the band, though it is a great cover also. The only cover I really don't care for is Soap Opera, though I think Schoolboys in Disgrace's cover might have hurt its sales.
