My thought right now is that I hope I'm not dreaming ! I was just given the news that my dad found out in his 6 week checkup that he gained 15.2 pounds ! Amazing, and I would have never allowed myself to think this optimistically. In early June last year, he weighed 119.8 pounds and now he weighs a shade under 163 1/2 pounds ! He had the slipup last period when he lost over 6 pounds, but blew past the 160 pound barrier I had long set in my mind as a milestone ! John, that is brilliant news! I can't believe how much weight your dad has put on! You and Tim must be over the moon! You sure proved those doctors wrong! Its obvious that the decated care and wholesome meals you provide your dad with have helped him pass the 160 pound barrier! I'm sure your dad will continue to improve with you taking care of him I hope this has made your dad really happy too!

Thanks so much sleepwalker ! Yes, we are all quite giddy right now ! The doc reacted with shocked amazement according to my dad ! I think one of the keys has been that my dad has been locked into a consistent exercise plan for just over a year once he stopped taking blood thinners ! He hasn't strayed one bit from the plan and I think that has been the key to him putting on weight heathily !

I hope you feel proud of yourself John - you should! You've been consistent in caring for your dad and feeding him good food, as well as encouraging him to go walking And I'm not suprised that the doctor was so amazed, I bet you were a little stunned too!

Fanstastic news, John and Tim! It's interesting that the exercise was the key, not just eating a lot. I'm sure that that has helped him to add muscle, not just weight -- which is much more significant weight gain. A great milestone day!!!

Thanks so much Holly ! Yes, it was important for my dad to gain muscle; but when we joked with him today about getting 'fat' if he keeps this up; he said 'I've never been fat in my life' . He's always been a fit and very strong fellow so this has really been a tough ordeal for him ! It's approaching two years since he was able to work and he's been functionally disabled for close to a year and a half! I felt the exercise was also very important to prevent the pulmonary clotting from returning and also any other sort of issues like blood sugar and cholesterol that might arise from improper, weight gain for gains sake ! The feeling of having energy and wellness still has a long ways to go for him. It hasn't returned as rapidly in conjunction with weight gain as I had hoped but baby steps are still being made ! :)He walks a nice distance but his primary motivation every time is 'to get it over with'. We've worked hard to keep him from giving into depression and it has worked reasonably well !

Thanks so much Smiley ! A 'controversy' actually arose as my dad insisted he weighed 164.4; which is a pound more than the official word I took from weigh in witness maddogtim74 !

Yes, my dad was as adamant as Adam Ant wasn't a Goody Too Shoes that he weighed a pound more than Tim said ! He obviously was very engaged and thrilled in his weight gain success this 'round and I think it bleeded over into male pattern bravado !
