Yes it has been 35 years since The KinKs played Central Park in NYC, or it will be on August 23rd anyway...Also the Carnegie Hall shows that same year were also amazing shows, March 2nd and 3rd and that's where the live- Show-Biz sessions came out of, I was there both nights and that is also where I got invited up on stage by Dave to sing the Banana Boat song with Ray thru Dave's Microphone and that is the actual take they used on Show-Biz ! That strange voice in the mix about 13 or 14 seconds in to the song is mine , and after the song is over Ray starts to say I'd like to thank the young man who helped us out with that song but on the record it gets cut after he says I'd like to and it fades out there. For me the entire 1972 tour is still my favorite Kinks tour over all, it was the perfect blend of chaotic, sloppy drunken what's going to happen next rock & roll shows and also some super tight shows where the band played right on the money...and the Central Park show was the mix and pinnacle of it all. It's not only my favorite Kinks show of all time but my favorite show ever of anybody of all time. It was a magical summer night in NYC! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you find a way to return, please take me with you, Frank! I want to fly like Superman back to 1972!
Thanks for sharing!

Someone on Dave's page asked me if the Kinks played alot in the NYC area in the 70's and if they got a lot of radio airplay...here's what I said;
YES The KinKs played a lot in the NYC area during the 70's and they were the most amazing shows you could imagine...it was Rock & Roll Chaos, Glitz and Glamour in every form, from super tight shows to where all hell broke loose but they were all exciting to the max not like shows now a days where everything is well thought out and planned and hardly anything happens that was not pre determined even when they try to make it look like it wasn't. And yes of the approximate 300 KinKs shows I have seen at least 200 of them were during the 70's, from eveywhere from small college Gyms and small clubs with a couple of hundred people to the larger venues of thousands of people as they got more popular in the later 70's. So when I say I have seen them high and low I mean it. And during the 70's they did not get the kind of radio airplay like Zeppelin, The Stones, The Who, Beatles, and the other big draw bands thery did have such a dedicated kult follwing of fans, and other musicians and bands as well as radio DJ's they did get more airplay than you would think and not just the hits either...I mean lesser known songs from VGPS,Arthur, Lola vs Powerman, Everybody's in Show-Biz, , the Preservation shows, Soap Opera, Schoolboys, Sleepwalker, Misfits, ect...all got a decent amount of airplay usuall in spurts when me and members of the KinKs Preservation Society that I was running made requests, or after the Kinks did one of their dramatic performances in the NYC area that for one reason or another got a lot of press due to strange and unusual occurances that occured on and off stage which was the case at most KinKs shows back then...All I can say is you had to be there, it was the most amazing time in my life for me and I'd go back if I could only find a way. Those really were the days that I thought would never end!
