Hot Potatoes Went to visit some friends in Tanworth yesterday and as soon as i got on the train I opened Spotify and started listening to The kinks discography on "shuffle play " This was the first song that came up and it has stuck in my head. i heard a lot of songs I had never heard before and I honestly cannot say there was one I did not like. Must be a lot of songs I still havent heard that are as good and I can't wait

Great to hear, Colb!
It will be wonderful if you find yourself joining Martin and me in appreciation of the 80's and 90's Kinks, and finding that era just as excellent as their early work!
I only say this because of how positive you've reacted to all the Kinks stuff you've heard so far, so there's a chance!
But either way, it's great that you enjoy them so far!

Tin Soldier Man
I may have seen a soldier decoration left over at the store, since that is where I began hearing the melody of this song in my head.

The kinks song in my head today is Don't Forget to Dance, from my train trip on Sat. i am honestly not sure if it is a really good song or a over sentimental song ? I loved the start when I first heard it but wasnt sure about the rest of it? Anyone have any views on this song. Good or bad it is the song in my head today. Another one I heard on Sat but cannot remember the title and can't find it anywhere was something like Paranoia Paranormal, anyone have any ideas what it could be please.

Colb,
I really love "Don't Forget To Dance". It is melancholic, sentimental and nostalgic very much in the Waterloo Sunset tradition. Maybe I love it so much because I had to wait for years until Ray came up with such a classic?
Your query about the unknown song referring to Paranoia - "Acute Schizophrenia Paranoia Blues" or "Destroyer"?

My opinion is that "Don't Forget To Dance" is a perfect and gorgeous song. There are lonely people in the world, just like the lady Ray sings to in the lyrics, and it is very moving that Ray wrote such a song, with such needed warmth. I hope it is heard by all who would benefit from it. The character whose point of view Ray is singing from has sympathy for this person, and such a caring tone. There is nothing else quite like this song that I have ever heard.
"Waterloo Sunset" is a perfect comparison, Martin! Yes, to me, the best Kinks songs (and songs by anyone) have a touch of sadness, while being ultimately uplifting. That shows a lot of heart, and the tender vocal style, and beautiful music of such a song shall always be appreciated by me. I'm thinking of many fantastic Kinks songs that fit this description, for starters, plus Ray and Dave solo, and my other favorite musical artists who write from the heart.
I like hard rock songs, too, of course! But if I could only choose one style of song (between wild rock and ballads with depth) to own by all of my favorites in the "desert island" scenario, it would be the heartwarming ballad type, because when it comes from the Kinks and my other favorites, there's no "calculating to make a hit" involved, so there's nothing for me to criticize. I know it's coming from an honest place. I can feel it.
And I appreciate it, greatly.

I think "Don't Forget To Dance" is one of the best ballads ever - written straight from the heart.
