YOU BET IT IS!!So enter your vote in Ultimate Classic Rock's March Riff Madness. The Kinks made it to the final round of voting, but we're up against Heart with the riff from "Barracuda." And Heart fans are very well-organized! Considering that all rock riffs were derived from Dave's riff in "You Really Got Me," it would be a shame for us not to win this contest. You can vote once an hour until the contest ends on Tuesday, April 8. So join the Kinks Army and we can win this thing!!! ultimateclassicrock.com/barracuda-vs-you-really-got-me-march-riff-madness/

Alas, we were defeated in the final hours by the Valkyrie army of Heart fans. Silly as this contest was, it is even sillier to think that "Barracuda's" Led-Zep rip-off riff is the best ever in rock and roll. So it was a shame that we couldn't get more of the Kinks faithful organized to vote for us.
Organizing Kinks fans is like herding cats, sometimes.

Sadly, Heart won. They have a very well-organized fan base. That's all it comes down to, really. But we took the Kinks all the way to the final round!

That's what it comes down to after all.

o Maybe it's the best or not, but if it was the first riff with distortion that changed the start of rock hard ... there came after all. Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Beatles, Stones, The Who, Ten Years After, Frank Zappa, Taste ect .... but it was the Kinks before .... that nobody says it in magazines or radio music scene in general !!!..
- In Conclusion: "You Really Got Me" Hard Rock began, and those who came after it hardened.

Good point.
I’m a Kinks fan since 1964 and I don’t think YRGM is the best riff ever.
But it certainly was pathbreaking for new musical trends that would follow years later – Rock, Hard Rock, Punk and Heavy Metal.
