This interview is very interesting. It helped me get a better handle on some of the new songs. I'm surprised there's not more discussion on this board of the album. Is it tucked away somewhere where I haven't found it? I've been playing the CD repeatedly in my car and quite enjoy it.
It's been growing on me as well. I have to be honest: Dave is not the world-class songwriter that his brother is. But that's an awfully high bar to set, and if you leave aside those comparisons, Dave has really done quite well with this album.
All the reviews I've seen say "Little Green Amp" is about how Dave got that "YRGM" sound, but aren't they missing half the story? The song is also about his sorrow at being separated from the girl he loved. I haven't deciphered all the lyrics yet, but he seems to be saying he cut up his amp partly in anger over his romantic troubles. I'll have to look at Dave's book again to see if he draws the same link there. Or does anyone remember?
I don't recall that story being in Kink. I just looked at it again, and Dave doesn't mention romantic anger when he describes slashing the amp. There he says he was just experimenting and being curious. But who knows, maybe he's finally coming out with the truth. Or maybe this is just the way he prefers to remember it now. It does make a better story.
Fascinating how Dave keeps returning to the thing with Sue. He seems truly to have never gotten over that.
