Hey there long time!
Ive had quite a few problems accessing the forum computer crashing not being able to post messages saying that the site doesn't exist was on the verge of giving up, took the odd chance and it seems to have sorted itself out! Thankfully.
But during my Exile, i found a love one that will be with me for life. That is my record player which i picked up on my 22nd birthday early august ( btw thanks alot to all who commented in that thread )
Im literally discovering music all over again, its phenomenal! ive picked up alot of records some brand new some second hand even got myself my mums old tamla & Johnny Cash records which play great surprisingly shes had em since the late 60's
Two records in particular that i got second hand were a Beatles one called Rock n Roll music volume 1 & a German issue Rolling Stones record called 20 super hits by the rolling stones ( as far as im aware its a german issue no longer available ) & they are absolutely fantastic!
I would also like to use this thread to make a wee recommendation for The Beatles Let It Be... Naked. I picked this up on vinyl & it really is superior to the original Let It Be, its really raw and almost sounds like your in the room with them!

Michael, good to see you! I do prefer the sound of vinyl, but cds are less prone to scratch, and for that reason, I prefer them. When Ive had problems getting on the board Ive gone to support.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=login. And yes let It Be..Naked is a better album than the original. I guess today is the anniversary date of the release of Love Me Do, one of my favorites. I play the harmonica part to it-i think its beautiful. Good to see you Michael!

Love your avatar picture, Micheal -- is that Michael Caine from the Ipcress File?
I agree totally about Let It Be . . . Naked. I believe the Beatles never were happy with that original mix, especially the "wall of sound" on The Long and Winding Road. I can barely listen to the original mixes now!
Glad to have you back!

I also voted for CD because of their convenience. I've never invested in good enough stereo equipment to really hear much of a difference. I also do a great deal of my listening while driving, so the convenience of a CD player in the car is really important to me.
I grew up in the vinyl era, so I own a lot of LPs, most of which are scratched and hissy by now. I also lived through the audiocassette era, when you had to listen to an album in order, no skipping from track to track, and had to rewind if you wanted to hear the same side again. What a pain!
I do think that CDs encourage us to listen to songs rather than complete albums. Some albums deserve to be listened to straight through, but many LPs had their share of crummy "filler" tracks. Listening to a "best of" record masks the fact that there were often tracks on an album that deserved to be skipped.
OTOH, when I listen to a compilation I sometimes miss the order of an LP that I know well. Case in point: the US and UK versions of early Beatles album had quite different track lists. Nowadays the CD reissues all follow the UK track lists. I'm so used to the US versions that it startles me to hear those familiar tunes in a different order!
