My town has flooded really badly - badly enough to get onto the news! I saw local residents being interviewed and footage of the ridiculously high river - 5 metres higher then it's usual level! A lot of places in North Yorkshire (the region where I live) have been badly affected, including York, where Ray is playing on the 8th of October - I have tickets for that show so I hope I can still get there.
I got up this morning and was pretty shocked when I looked out my living room window. I live in a block of flats by a bridge over a river so can see it when I look out. I couldn't believe how high it was. It's been pretty much raining non stop for several days and I guess this is the result
I went into my kitchen and looked out of the window in there, to see policeman, firemen, and guys from the environmental agencies. There was a fire engine blocking the road and police cars parked up too.
My town's small and pretty quiet usually but there were groups of people everywhere, many with cameras. I thought I'd better get dressed and get out there with my camera too, and have a look at what was going on. I walked to the end of my road to see the bridge had been closed off, I already knew the bridge had been closed for a couple of days, but the footpath's closed too and signs have been put up stating that the bridge is unsafe. The water's so high that you could literally stand on the bridge, reach over and dip your hands into it! The only people allowed over the bridge were those whos houses have been badly flooded, they were escorted by police and have to stay at a hotel, just down the road from my flat. Apparently some people even had to be rescued by boat today
Although I'm right by the river I should be ok. These flats were deliberately built with an underground car park to prevent our homes from being flooded. I'm just hoping the the water doesn't reach the underground car park - that's where Lola is. Luckily one of my neighbours has said he will drive her up into the high street if the flood water starts to come into the car park. I think we're expecting more rain so god knows how much worse things are going to get
Here's some photos I took. Some of these places are literally just outside my flat, other places just a minute or two from me.
