Just thought you might like to know that there's a new interview with Ray in the latest issue of Mojo magazine (thanks to Jayne for reminding me about this!) 16, you might be especially interested in getting this as David Bowie is on the front cover Anyway, I haven't had chance to read the interview today but I had a little peek inside and there is a nice full page piccy of Ray As with the Word interview I'll post pics of the Ray related pages here, when I've read the article. I'll try my best to make it readable!!

Glad you got to take a peek 16! But what were you doing at ASDA!? I thought you did your shopping at Morrisons - I'm very disappointed!! (Perhaps ASDAs cheese is cheaper!? ;D) I took some photos yesterday but I'm not happy to post them as they aren't very good I was hoping to take pictures that would be clear enough to read the interview, if you zoomed in. I'll try again tommorow and if I can't make a better job of it then I'm considering typing out the interview myself, since I don't have much on tommorow! BTW, I believe there is also an interview with Ray in the latest edition of Q, which I may also have to get.

Thanks Sleepy for being so kind as to take the trouble to post this article! I used to pickup MOJO off the stand sometimes when I went to the college town 45 miles away but I don't get there very often at all now! I'm going off memory, but it seems that I got a Q or a Mojo in the 90s in which 'Waterloo Sunset' had managed to win the Best Song in UK pop history as voted on that year by fans; 'Hey Jude' and 'Satisfaction' typically were the top 2 I believe! I got started with the first page; I'll have to return later to finish up! Thanks again!

Mojo really gets the essence of Ray and the Kinks, I think. They cover him often and always do sympathetic, insightful pieces. I really enjoyed this interview. Thanks for posting, Sleepy!

You're welcome John and Holly! I hope you were both able to read most of it, I'm not a great photographer and rejected the first two sets of shots I took, this was the best I could do! Holly, I wasn't aware that Mojo covers Ray often - thanks for the tip! BTW, John, you sure have a great memory when it comes to remembering things you've read, regarding magazine polls and chart positions of songs, etc! Ray is also in the latest addition of Q magazine. I didn't buy a copy or I would share that too, but I did sneakily read the whole 1 page feature whilst at the supermarket! ;D It's basically a regular feature they do called 'Let's Do Lunch With...' where the interview takes place over lunch. Ray wasn't too happy that he couldn't have poached eggs (something to do with the water they are boiled in having been 'thrown out' already very odd) so he had an omlette. He didn't really seem like he wanted to be interviewed, I think he was pre-occupied with other stuff, like that new Best Of Kinks CD... Anyway, a big and loyal Ray fan called Jayne alerted me to some Twitter posts by the interviewer and he is totally slating Ray and slagging him off regarding the interview. Very unproffessional, I hope his bosses find out and pull him up on it. Poor Ray, that guy was paid to interview him, not to give his personal opinions on him and slag him off on Twitter Anyway, there is a link on Dave Emlen's site that has an article about the Q feature, here it is - www.contactmusic.com/news/ray-davies-pretends-to-be-damon_1383588

Sleepy, I just read the Mojo article! It was a bit difficult to read the last page but it was well worth the squinting! I thought that was an excellent interview! By making it through the final page, I was also able to see Ray talk about not getting 'cross' too often but when he does, he tends to react strongly! 'Get cross' is not a common term I hear (although I knew the meaning) except when I see you use it ! It made me smile to see Ray use it!

I just read the Mojo interview with delight. Thanks so much Sleepy!
It's a particularly good and interesting one. I haven't bought a music magazine in years, but I'll try to find this issue (not an easy task over here where Mojo has a small and unpredictable distribution)
I loved it most when he tells us about Flo & Eddies beautiful comment when he showed surprise that they could consider him as their producer: "but there is poetry in that failure" That is wonderful and explains why I love the Turtles.
Ray's insight on how the Kinks inability to succeed was in a way what allowed them to be more poetic, experimental and non - corporate, this is more creative, is great too.

Luis, you're very welcome To know people have read and enjoyed it makes taking the pics worthwhile. I do like to share these articles, especially since I know that these magazines aren't always easy to get hold of outside of the UK. Good luck in trying to locate a copy! I'm glad you enjoyed the article too John Sorry about the last page I took several photos of that page and that was the best of a bad bunch. Some of the pages were easy to split into two sections when it came to photographing them which made the text easier to read, but I couldn't do it with that last page. Really, you don't use the term 'getting cross' in the US? Funny how I read that interview and thought nothing of it, yet it really stood out to you! I'm glad our quirky British terms continue to amuse you!! ;D BTW, there is an article (but not an interview as far as I know) in another magazine at the mo. But it's not one you can buy in the shops, it's only available through mail order and I think you have to subscribe to it (I forget what it's called.) I think the article concerns the new Best Of CD. A friend has a copy and thought of me when she saw the article, she is saving it for me but I won't be getting it for two weeks. If it's decent I'll take pics to post here.

So I went out with mum today and when I got in the car she told me there was a magazine on the back seat for me that had an article about Ray in it a work friend of hers who knows I love the Kinks had given it to her for me. It just so happens to be the article I mentioned in the post above, that a friend is saving for me. Here it is if anyone's interested in taking a look, hopefully you can read it if you zoom in a bit -

Thank you very much Sleepwalker, I enjoyed the MOJO interview a lot as well. One of the reasons I haven't been posting much these days is because when I came to the forum I always ended up on this thread reading it!
