Holly - from your review on your blog where you called out some of the Waterloo Sunset chords (D-A-G).... and the above post where you talk about the tricky intervals... I take it you play music... ?
you are absolutely right about the intervals to waterloo sunset... when i was a kid I always had a lot of trouble singing that song... certain phrases you just had to hit the note yourself because the chords would not give to you...like the "but i don't need no friends" section - particularly difficult interval -
the song also has a huge vocal range...
fortunately due to a lack of internet savvy I remain distant from the twitterverse - so I don't get riled up by mean spirited tweets - one would think though that after mr mccartney's nightmare in the opening ceremony that a 70 year old song writing genius from the 60's might get a bit of a pass...

Yes, I play piano and do a lot of choral singing. Old-school music teachers made me learn theory, for which I am grateful now.
I adore McCartney, but there are a lot of notes he can't hit. I suspect nobody in his trusted inner circle has the chutzpah to tell him so. That last album of his was embarrassing -- most tracks were unlistenable to me. And I'm someone who LIKES the old standards songbook.

Interesting stuff from the KPS Digest:
The Waterloo Sunset compilation is at #14 on the Official UK Albums Top 100 chart, and the song "Waterloo Sunset" (original Kinks recording) is at #47 on the Singles chart. The Kinks at the BBC set debuts at #8, and Waterloo Sunset at #16 on the Official Record Store Album Chart. The BBC set is also at #60 on the Dutch Album Top 100 Chart.
It looks as if Ray really maximized the exposure he got with the Olympics!
