An Australian commentator introduced Paul McCartney as "THE most successful songwriter in British history." I am very curious what she'd call Ray when they televise the closing ceremony...... THE finest songwriter Britain has ever produced? Im certainly looking forward to seeing Ray! Here in Chicago, WXRT radio refers to Waterloo Sunset as "The greatest song ever written"

I hadn't told my girlfriend about the possible presence of Ray at the Closing Ceremony. She couldn't beleive it and she got very excited when she saw him appearing on stage. I have to admit I was scared he would not be there.
But he was, and he delivered a very good performance.

Did NBC cut out Ray's performance in New York?

It wasn't just New York cooldad! I just watched the first part that I missed earlier on the replay and there was no Ray! I believe the NBC coverage would be uniform across the country but I'll be a positive thinker and hope that uncleson in Chicago and other US Kinks fans got to see Ray's performance! Does this sort of lack of appreciation and disappointment seem par for the course for Kinks fans?

Donl, John, I'm sorry to tell you this but NBC did indeed cut Ray's performance A lot of people are very angry about it! I feel sorry for those of you that were expecting to see Ray and had to sit through drivel like the Spice Girls and One Direction. I think it's a disgrace that he was cut no wonder so many people still don't know RD's name. In my opinion he's a legend, he really ought to be knighted. Poor Ray, story of his life... Check this link out, you can have your say here - gregmitchellwriter.blogspot.co.uk/2012/08/nbc-hits-new-low.htmlI hate to seem like I'm rubbing it in but Ray's performance really was fantastic. He sung beautifully and gave a really great performance, I'm very proud of him Someone called Aukwanho (a big thank you to you!) has put up a video of Ray's performance on YouTube - there are a lot of comments underneath regarding NBC. Here's the video - (Ray arrives in his taxi at about 1 minute fifteen seconds into the video) And just too add further insult to Ray being cut from NBC, some idiot has written some crap on Twitter about Ray can't find the link though... And from Whykinks.net some great photos of Ray at the Olympics, including this one - (Click this link for more) www.whykinks.net/road/12-olympic/whykinks.html

What a lovely surprise it must've been for Sue when he appeared!

Yes, I am thoroughly outraged that the numbnuts who run NBC had no idea who they were cutting. I don't mind the Spice Girls, frankly -- big reunion and all that -- but to leave in George Michael and cut Ray! Outrageous. And why should that canned Bowie sequence be preferable to a live performance of any kind, let alone an acknowledged master like Ray -- well, I was quite p-o'd. Here is another link to a clip of Ray's performance from the BBC coverage: Thanks to Ksenia, a.k.a. our own VivaLeBeat, for putting up this clip. Great quality, too!

Also wanted to give a shout out to Bill Shanley, who as always accompanied Ray on stage brilliantly. Lovely opportunity for a gifted musician and wonderful person.
