This is gRAYt news! Once it is televised worldwide, my friends and colleagues will hopefully understand my passion for The Kinks and their music..... well, at least they will know who he is when I talk about Ray Davies in the future.

Yep, hopefully this'll educate a few of your friends and colleagues Tourist! It is gRAYt news if it's true, as Holly said! I'm still waiting for the day when me and my friend can order a C-O-L-A cola in a bar or cafe and someone will actually KNOW what we are talking about, rather then staring at us blankly or asking us to repeat ourselves!

My students have been learning about the Olympics in their class. When I walked into their classroom, they asked me which Olympic event I was looking forward to the most, I said "Of course the closing ceremony!", and they all went " " Then, I had to explain why.

Something similar happened to me the other day. A non-Kinks friend (though she's slowly getting into them) told me she was always excited about the closing cerimony. I told her I never had until this year. ;D

I was unaware of this. I was having dinner with some friends and I had an impulse to log on the forum on my mobile. My eyes went immediately to this thread.
I am deeply moved by this news. I thought it was all going to be Sir Paul, etc. Finally a general recognition to the greatest London artist since Charles Dickens.
I serve myself a gin & tonic, I raise my glass; Here´s to you maestro!

Who else besides me thinks Ray will give a "shout out" to George Best at closing ceremonies?

An Australian commentator introduced Paul McCartney as "THE most successful songwriter in British history." I am very curious what she'd call Ray when they televise the closing ceremony......
THE finest songwriter Britain has ever produced?

I heard today that the headliner for the closing ceremonies will be Damon Albarn (with or without Blur, I'm not sure). My guess is that Damon will bring on his hero Ray to lead "Waterloo Sunset."

As with anything Kinks-related, I've become a bit skeptical. I won't actually believe Ray will be there playing Waterloo Sunset until I get to see it. ;D
