The Electric Light Orchestra was formed in Birmingham, England in the autumn of 1970 from the ashes of the eccentric art-pop combo the Move, reuniting frontman Roy Wood with guitarist/composer Jeff Lynne, bassist Rick Price and drummer Bev Bevan. The band wanted to pursue a new and a different musical style, an irresistible fusion of Beatlesque pop, classical arrangements and futuristic iconography. Jeff and Roy wanted to "pick up where The Beatles’ 'I Am the Walrus' left off". The band’s first self-titled album was released in 1971 (issued as “No Answer” in the United States). Roy Wood soon left Electric Light Orchestra to form Wizzard taking with him Rick Price. With 1973's Electric Light Orchestra II, the group returned to the Top Ten with their grandiose cover of the Chuck Berry’s chestnut "Roll Over Beethoven"; the record was also their first American hit. Let’s start this fascinating new thread with the expanded album version! Electric Light Orchestra - Roll Over Beethoven (Full Song) From "ELO II" 1973. Enjoy!

Thankyou for starting this thread on E.L.O Martin. I have only recently started to delve into thier music a little, I'm still waiting for my recently ordered E.L.O set to arrive! I enjoyed listening to Roll Over Beethoven - love it! Just as good as The Beatles version, if not better!

FIRST TIME i SAW ELO IN 1971 or 72 at a small theatre in Porchester NY i had front row seats, and when they did Roll Over Beethoven Hugh McDowell ( I think his name was ) the Cello player was leaning over the front of the stage and his Cello bow was touching my face going back and forth during his solo, my eyes were following the bow back and forth like I was being hyptnotized....
