I have always loved Mott The Hoople and in the 80's the group I was in did a session for the John Peel BBB1 show and Dale Griffin, Mott's drummer produced the session. He turned out to be one of the nicest people I have ever met. In the interval we went to a local pub and had a few pints with him, he was superb. A year later we asked him to produce our first album but sadly he was not available but wrote us a lovely letter saying he wished he could have done it and recommending someone else to us. Such a genuine nice guy.

I bet he was.
Regarding Mott The Hoople - I met Mick Ralphs in early 1974 in Lausanne after a rehearsal of the newly founded Bad Company for a short chat. Great guy - open-minded and down-to-earth. He hasn't let celebrity fame go to his head.
The same goes for Ian Hunter whom I met in February 1989 when he played Zurich. Awesome human being!
I have very fond and positive memories of Mott The Hoople and their members.

I have just bought "The Mental Years" box set which contain their albums from "Mott The Hoople" to "Brain Capers" and a live CD and a CD called "Mott Ballads". Superb stuff

Great buy!
I got mine about a year ago and I am still absolutely thrilled! Just listen to "Can You Sing The Song That I Sing"! Nobody comes up with such a tune anymore nowadays.
Mott The Hoople were a creative powerhouse! Thanks for the journey!

I have also just bought their "Original Album Classics" 5 CD pack, with "All The Young Dudes" "Mott" "The Hoople" "Drive On" and "Shouting And pointing" for £15, a bargain in my book. Funnily enough I never listened to Ian Hunter's solo work, apart from a couple of singles which I liked, I am sure anything he does must be good.

Absolutely!
Check out Ian's „Man Overboard" (2009), „When I'm President" (2012) and „Fingers Crossed" (2016). Great albums!

Just noticed this thread. I love Mott The Hoople, have all their albums and was lucky enough to meet their drummer Dale Griffin once and he was a brilliant guy.
Just getting into Ian Hunter's solo albums, not sure why I haven't before and I am very impressed.

Just getting into Ian Hunter's solo albums, not sure why I haven't before and I am very impressed. I think all of Ian's albums are great, especially the new one PLUS "Fingers Crossed". His collaboration with Mick Ronson "Yui Orta" is outstanding, too.
