I've been told that there are 3 milestones in quitting smoking.
The first 3 days are tough, because that's when the physical craving is worst. Once the nicotine leaves your body, that eases off.
Three weeks is the next milestone -- because that when the old smoking habits try to reassert themselves. Your new habits aren't really laid down strongly yet, and it's easy to have a moment of weakness.
Three years is the last milestone. By then, your fears of smoking have worn off and you're over-confident -- and ready for relapse!
Good luck with weathering them all, M4L!!

Good for you M4L. I hope to join you some day in the future! ;D My friends say that if I could do it, anybody can do it. You could do it too Smiley. ;D It's not that I was a very heavy smoker, but I LOVED smoking and the only reason I quit smoking 3 years ago is the fact that Suzanne stopped and I told myself I could possibly do the same. Don't give up M4L !

Congratulations M4L ! You're on your way ! I remember after 4 or 5 days without smoking I felt so proud I hardly stayed away from buying a pack of cigarettes and celebrate !

I'm rooting for you M4L. I'm sure thinking of your grandchild is a good motivator to quit! Plus I've heard that after you've stopped smoking for a while your sense of smell and taste improve a lot. Which means you could enjoy tasting good food even more. (Hmmm...is that a benefit or... ) And Holly, I think the three milestones idea could be applied to other "bad" habits as well...I should keep them in mind when I try to change some of mine.

Food and drink definitely taste better after quitting! Your sense of smell improves too. As KinkCan notes, you may feel like treating yourself to a pack of cigarettes to celebrate -- but you could buy yourself some fresh flowers instead and really enjoy their fragrance, m4L!
