I have an old red and white Fender Stratocaster which was given to my dad for his 40th many moons ago by my mum via a musician friend, who swore it used to belong to The Kinks. I am trying to track down any photos or memories of a guitar like this being played. I love the guitar regardless but it would just be lovely to know if the myth was true! Thanks in advance for any help or advice you can give me!

Someone somewhere must know -- I hope we can get an answer for you, Emma. Would you be able to post a picture of the guitar here? That might help.

Emma, the below quoted link contains Dave's guitars. Just click on the respective guitar and it tells you when and what for it was used: www.davedavies.com/guitars/index.htmI hope I could help.

Very interesting Emma! I hope you will get confirmation that the guitar in question did belong to Dave - that would be really cool! As Holly suggested, it would be great to see a photo of the guitar I hope the links Martin and Uncleson posted will give you some answers (thankyou both for the interesting links ) I personally don't know if Dave ever played a guitar like the one you describe.

Here's a red and white Fender guitar that was used by Dave on the recording of I'm Not Like Everybody Else. But it is a Fender Electrik Xll of 1965, not a Stratocaster. Attachments:

Thank you what a lovely active community I am so thrilled by all your speedy replies! I think the best thing for me to do as suggested is to take a photo as it's definitely not the Fender Electrik although looks a little similar. I am also going to read the links intently to see if they lead me anywhere, thanks again, back soon with photo!

Here is a photo, it seems to be a 54 as suggested in the wikipedia entry but they do come in lots of different colours. Thanks! Attachments:
