Hi Soulbrother40! The Kinks Village Green Preservation Society 3-CD Special Deluxe Edition came out in 2004 and is still available. Cheers, Martin

FYI soulbrother, that 3-disc set also includes a lot of rarities that were later issued -- against Ray's wishes, apparently -- as The Great Lost Kinks album. It's a real collectors' item with some wonderful, if quirky, songs.

Funny how I had so much trouble finding a copy on CD, I remember enquiring about it when I first joined this forum - now I'm always coming across bootleg CDs of it on eBay!

might I suggest the boxed set Picture Book. It has so many great songs, from all of the Kinks various eras. Plus it includes some un-released gems not to mention, having a well written and jam packed full of goodies, novella booklet. I know you can get it for a great price, from overstock.com.

I will look into it! I got VGPS today. It's fantastic! I'm not sure how much I like Something Else. It might take a few more listens but VGPS is great.

VGPS is a standard in the Kinks Library. Something Else, is Also high up there, when it comes to Fandom Kritical acclaim but I can understand your needing time to warm up to it.
I'm glad you'll look into the Picture Book box. It's a great set that will not disappoint , especially at the price.

The album did not well commercially at all. But it stood the test of time. Once more Ray Davies and The Kinks were ahead of the time. Today it is considered the band's masterpiece!

You're right Uncleson and Martin. It seems the VGPS was ahead of its time but people finally seem to be appreciating this album for the masterpiece that it is! Ray's performance of VGPS at Meltdown was spectacular and I like to think that it may have introduced the album to a wider audience. I never tire of this listening to this album and doubt I ever will!

Whats unbelievable is when VGPS was released I believe it did not do well commercially. We have to remember that many great albums were released the same year 1968 : White album (Beatles), Beggars Banquet (Stones), Electric Ladyland (Hendrix),... Everybody was talking about revolution, drugs and girls, Kinks were not on this inspiration at all... Plus the American federation of musician which refused The Kinks to tour in the USA until 1969...
