I just read your blog Holly and its clear that missing Meltdown really got to you Its very unfortunate that circumstances didn't allow you to go as I'm sure you were extremely excited about attending On a more positive note - I enjoyed the piece you wrote about Sunny Afternoon - spot on! You've got a real knack for interpreting songs and I think Ray would like what you had to say about Sunny Afternoon Thanks, Sleepy! I'd love to imagine Ray reading this . . .

Great review Sleepy ! I'm glad Pete caught Ray's attention but sorry you had that pen malfunction ! I remember the time I saw Ray in Nashville, he slapped and shook hands with those in front of the stage (re: your Dec. Ray show)! I would have been thrilled too that Ray played Phenomenal Cat and The Way Love Used to Be ! I was really glad that Ray played 'Animal Farm' at the N'ville show much as you were 'Picture Book'; so I relate to your joy in that regard ! Low Budget, I think, was a good concert closer! It would probably really go over well here in the US at the moment ! Thanks for giving us an insider's view of a great concert sleepwalker !

For all we know he might read things on here occassionally. I think Dave reads things on his site so who knows?

I'm pleased you liked my review I'm glad Pete caught Ray's attention too as I would have been to shy, I'm still a little gutted about the pen incident though I'll just confirm that the time I shook Ray's hand wasn't at the December show but one before that! I missed out at the December show! I'm so glad you and Tim got to see Ray and hear Animal Farm (I guess that must be a personal favourite of yours?) I really hope you'll get to see him again in the future! Has he ever played anywhere in Alabama? Yes, Low Budget was a great concert closer, very relevant to the situations people find themselves in today!

Yes, Low Budget was a great concert closer, very relevant to the situations people find themselves in today! As another person privileged enough to have enjoyed both of Ray's Meltdown shows from a great 2nd row seat (and then up in front of the stage) - thanks to a certain Holly J (as well as Ray's concert in December, plus the shows in Paris and Amsterdam on 31 October and 1 November, can you people believe I'm crazy enough to take planes and trains all over Europe to see Ray Davies?!!!! I live in Italy, and Ray never comes here), I can join in Sleepwalker's enthusiasm. Hearing those songs from VGPS was incredible. The opening song was Village Green, perhaps my favourite of all (though I love Animal Farm, Phenomenal Cat and ALL the others). The accompaniment of a choir and orchestra, in addition to the band, made it all the more memorable. I thought Ray's voice sounded a bit faltering at the beginning, especially compared to how he sang in the first show with the band, but it picked up. The friend I stayed with in London has a friend in the Crouch End Chorus, who mentioned they'd rehearsed for many hours the day before and Ray seemed shattered, understandably given his commitments (time and energy) for the Meltdown Festival. From what I understand, the Yank contingent of Kinks fans can finally look forward to a tour this autumn (I'm so crazy I might even fly across the Atlantic for that as well).

I've got a new mobile phone and haven't learned to use it yet...so my pictures are mostly fuzzy. Nice souvenirs all the same! Attachments:

Michelle, I wish I had known what you looked like before Ray's show - I would've come over and said hello! Thankyou for your views on the show! I can't say I noticed Ray's voice faltering but Ray can't really do any wrong in my eyes! ;D I'm glad you enjoyed the show so much and its cool that you know of someone who's in the Crouch End Festival Chorus! Poor Ray I believe he's doing a show today so I hope he got a few days rest after his last Meltdown performance. I don't think your crazy flying to other countries to see Ray - I'd love to do that if I didn't have such a fear of flying Did you get one of those signed Ray posters? I still need to get a frame for mine. The programmes were cool too, as soon as I saw that adorable picture of Ray on the cover I just had to have one! Great photo BTW, thanks for sharing!

I'm sure that having that great reception in London was very sweet for Ray -- no doubt he did overextend himself just to make sure that the whole festival was a success. I'm glad that so many of our special circle of fans managed to get there to give him the welcome he deserved.
But I am very glad to hear these rumors of a fall tour. And Michelle, it would be so cool if you came so we could finally meet!!

Thankyou everyone for your feedback and kind words Smiley - I'm glad you liked my pics! I only had coffee at the cafe but made a point of telling the staff how good their coffee was! Perhaps I should've had Afternoon Tea? ;D I take it you've been before? I'd love to see your photos! I found a few in my photobucket Sleepy. It's of me, The owner of the WMC and my dear friend Olga. This was either the day before or the day after Kon in 2007. I've been since, but didn't take any more pix. This is another dear friend we call The Lady in Black. You may have seen her and Olga at Meltdown. Great KinKs Fans! How ironic that the poster in the window is for my hometown heroes, Chicago's Blues Bros. PS. If we can expect our dear RD back in the states this fall, I'll start saving my pennies to come back to visit you then HH. Can I have the Futon?

I think Meltdown was a big sucess for Ray but I hope he hasn't been overdoing things to much sometimes its easy to forget that he's 67, you certainly would'nt think so by the way he performs! I think he was in really gooid spirits that night and so were the crowd. He's obviously very proud of the VGPS songs - quite rightly so!
