Sorry John - I actually meant to mention Zero Hour by the Plimsouls! Yes, I did watch that one, in fact it was the first of your videos that I watched tonight I thought it was a really cool track, a real punk vibe going on with that song! I want to hear more!

Glad you loved the Plimsouls video sleepwalker; but then again, I knew you would! Oh, you posted one of my fav Cars songs! One of the few Car's tunes I actually bought a 45 record of in the late 80s (long after it was a single) ! I could post a gaggle full of Car's tunes; and Blondie ones for that matter! But here's a lesser known heavy rocker by the Cars that I put on a power pop mix cd! Strap Me In - The Cars

I saw an interview with the Cars one time way back when were they talked about how they tested a song in their car stereo system and if it sounded good in there, it was a keeper of a song! Hence, the names The Cars! A great song sounds even better when you're heading down the highway with your top or windows down!

Aussie Rick Springfield first charted in the US in 1972 when 'Speak to the Sky' hit #14. Rick wasn't seen in the Top 40 again until 1981 when 'Jessie's Girl' rocketed to #1. By this time, he was a new hunk on General Hospital during the Luke and Laura heyday were as many as 30 million people in the US watched their wedding (American Idol has never achieved that audience as a #1 show). Rick would score 15 more Top 40 hits by 1989 and disappeared into the ether until he resurfaced on General Hospital in the middle of the 00s ! It's kind of overlooked but Rick's music was a credible, commercialized form of power pop; and if accepted as such; would make him the biggest hitmaker in the genre. Not groundbreaking, but it still has an edge with a hook over 20 years later! Here's one of his better tunes in my opinion, and one of his biggest hits (#5)! This live performance is pretty darn good! Love Somebody (at Live Aid) - Rick Springfield This is another I used to crank when it came on the radio! The video is kinda 80s cheeseball! Human Touch - Rick Springfield This was his a #2 hit for him and stills hold up, I think! Don't Talk to Strangers - Rick Springfield And of course, there's the song he's known world 'round for! Jessie's Girl - Rick Springfield Rick Springfield had a hit song called 'Bruce' in the 80s which made fun of the fact he was often mistaken for Bruce Springsteen because of their similar last names. In a coincidental twist, Springsteen titled his 1992 album Human Touch and had a hit single with the title track!

Here's a track from 1983's 'In Heat' that slipped into the Top 40 right after the smash hit 'Talking In Your Sleep' ( )! I remember a black fellow who was a friend at the time telling me he liked that ' it's got some rhythm, it's got beat. Not like some of that stuff on MTV like dun dun dun dun na dun dun dun aahhhhhhhhhhhhhh We're in a State of Confusion'. Of which I told him the Kinks were an old classic band; and he mumbled 'yeah, old'. He also mentioned 'The Authority Song' by John Mellencamp as not having that 'beat' either . Well, I did think it was cool that he liked this Romantics track! One In A Million - The Romantics

Of course, I had to include the 2 songs The Romantics are widely known for!
This is from their classic self titled debut record.
What I Like About You - The Romantics
From 'In Heat'.
Talking In Your Sleep - The Romantics
This was their last moderate hit from the Rhythm Romance album (1985, I think).
Test of Time - Romantics
Here's the opening track on 'In Heat'. One of my favs; great album opener and the train never slows down!
Rock You Up - The Romantics

Here's a tune from a Scottish band who exploded on the scene in 1992. This was a massive MTV hit and Modern Rock hit and their prior hit cover of The Stones 'I'm Free' would become tv commercial fodder afterwards! Their album Hotwired from 1992 is filled with power pop gems with a bit of Rolling Stones edge mixed in!
Divine Thing - The Soup Dragons

Here's the debut single off The Cars' first new album in a long time. Sounds good, very much their sound. Thanks for alerting us to this Tim! I just got an email from rollingstone saying it's the first Car's album in 24 years; which excludes The New Cars things with Todd Rundgren as lead singer! That's a good one Tim! Very Cars! A nice comeback!

Another cut off the latest Cars album. That's a good one! Has some of the keyboard sounds of the Heartbeat City album which I bought in high school!

I regret that I didn't get chance to watch more video's today guys, today was busier then I expected I did watch The Cars - Strap Me In and The Romantics - One In A Million though Thanks for posting those John - great songs! All the big hair-do's in The Romantics video made me smile ;D but its still a cool song! I probably won't be on the forum that much tommorow as it will be a long day (10+ hours on the road - although according to John the Uk isn't big enough to warrant driving for 10 hours! ;D ) But hopefully I'll have time to check out more of these songs soon

To slightly alter a James song, we're gonna miss you while you're gone! But it is so worth a road trip to have Ray Davies, and now your Mercedes, at the end of the rainbow! I just envy the trip; it's been so long for me to do anything like that! Tim strapped on some more new Cars songs to the forum; just by coincidence! Yes, the hairspray budget for that Romantics video had to be in the millions! Yep, I've since learned you can trek a long ways across the UK!
