I was just listening to Holly Beth Vincent's first solo record. Her prior band, Holly & The Italians, only had one album which gave the world the original 'Tell That Girl to Shut Up'. I still don't have the Italians record but the 7 inch version of '.. Shut Up' is a bonus track on the solo reissue as well as her duet with one of the Ramones on 'I Got You Babe'. Vincent later recorded with Johnette Napolitano of Concrete Blonde in a band called Vowel Movement in the 90s. The solo record is actually titled Holly & The Italians; the record company apparently forced her to call it that as the band was still under contract.
This pretty track opens the record. It could almost pass as Chryssie Hynde to my ears.

I love the riff to this rocker!

An old school punk rock band (Nick Lowe produced on Stiff Records), The Damned had some sublime power pop moments.

I've been listening to a comp by the New Zealand band The Chills recently. They were one of the leading proponents of the Dunedin Sound, named for the southern city of Dunedin. It was jingle jangle style of indie pop similar to the sound of southern bands in America led by REM. Flying Nun Records, which the Chills were on, had a broad stable of these type bands.
Here are a couple of highlights I discovered.

I posted The Head And the Heart's video for 'Another Story' on this thread about a year ago that I remember Martin really liked. I was surprised to just catch this video on the CMT (Country Music Tv) Pure station that is a new video from the band.

What at the beginning seems to be a dull, humdrum and tedious tune turns very soon into an awesome beautifully crafted hunting song. Written I presume for all the lost romantics with the best intentions, lovers and those who fell head over heals in love lately. Alabamajohn1 - are you in love?

I've never dug into the catalogue (2 albums?) of Television but I know that they are pretty famous for their guitar playing and were considered 'art rock' pioneers amongst the CGBG bands of the late 70s.
Tim got this solo record by their guitarist Richard Lloyd called Alchemy that came out in 1979. I was surprised to find that it is almost straight ahead power pop with a tinge of the new wave of the time. Maybe I shouldn't have been surprised as LLoyd went on to play on Matthew Sweet records.
I liked the melancholy opener 'Misty Eyes' from the getgo.
This is a nice rocker.

Sorry for the delay in welcoming you back Tim! It was getting close to a year since you'd been around.
It's good to hear that a Mighty Lemon Drop has a new band. I'll check this out!

I've been regularly seeing this pop, apparently 'alternative', gem on MTVU (ie college radio MTV). It's probably not her but fans of General Hospital might agree that the female at the end of the video looks like the actress who plays Rosa Lee on GH?
