Very intresting Martin! Thanks for posting I can't say that I know who Bob Goldthwait is but I still was intrested to read what he had to say about Schoolboys In Disgrace. I understand he is adapting the album into a musical, with Ray as executive producer! Sounds intresting! I know Schoolboys... is often dismissed as a lesser Kinks album, but personally I think its great!

You're very welcome, Sleepwalker! Bobcat Goldthwait acted as "Zed" in the Police Academy movies.

In addition to playing Zed, Goldthwait has written and directed three or four movies, most recently "World's Greatest Dad" with Robin Williams.

I'm not sure I like the idea of Jack White re-recording the music. Maybe one song, but not the whole thing. Anyway, why can't they just use the Kinks' recordings?

Yes, why can't they use The Kinks recordings? I don't like the thought of ANYONE covering all the songs from Schoolboys In Discgrace - unless Ray himself did new versions of the songs!

I am not at all keen on Jack White re-recording the Kinks' music! I'd much prefer the original Kinks recordings, but like sleepwalker, I could live with Ray giving us his new versions!

The original recordings were brilliant. I don't think any re-recording or new versions by anybody could top them.

Absolutely correct, Kinkcan. The orginal Kinks songs are perfect. And they are sacred. There's no need to re-record them at all.

I haven't found out very much about this project, but if it's being filmed as a musical, the performers would sing their own characters' songs, in which case they couldn't use the original recordings. Maybe Jack White is just serving as bandleader for reinterpretations of the songs by the cast. One good test of a song, after all, is its being durable enough to survive reinterpretation. This could turn out to be a good thing, bringing the Kinks songbook to a wider audience. If it turns out to be a good movie, that is.
