Hey, Starbuck, good to see you! Wish I were close enough to see that show on the 18th -- it should be great. Come back and report after, okay?
Ray just did that one track with the Mumfords. It was part of his new album, See My Friends, which featured "collaborations" (I hesitate to call them duets) on several vintage Kinks tunes. The album did quite well in the UK -- Ray's best-seller in years -- but it won't be released here until April 5. I think the general consensus on all Kinks boards is that the Mumfords track was the most successful collaboration.

;D
Bon Jovi, Metallica, Springsteen -- what was he thinking? That he could poach their audiences? I wouldn't WANT their audiences...

;D Bon Jovi, Metallica, Springsteen -- what was he thinking? That he could poach their audiences? I wouldn't WANT their audiences... Well I became a Springsteen fan shortly after becoming a Kinks fan and I highly respect Metallica for their importance in the metal world and the Kinks influence thereof; and my brother became a big Metallica fan after he was already a Kinks fan; so I think there is fertile ground to develop new fans and gain some audience for the record. Let's face it, Metallica's presence will be the biggest draw to this record outside of the loyal Kinks fans! I'm just sayin....

You might be right John, although I have to say I wasn't really keen on the Ray/Metallica collaboration on YRGM either Sorry! But it's probably my least favourite track on the album

Let's face it, Metallica's presence will be the biggest draw to this record outside of the loyal Kinks fans! I'm just sayin.... Naw, I was just joshin' with Starbuck. In the old days he used to post on a crazy Rolling Stones forum, and when they hosted a Kinks Week they invited us to come over and join the fun. ComplicatedLife and Uncleson and I had a lot of nutty nights with them. It was a VERY irreverent group of borderline insane music fans. Trashing other bands was sorta the order of the day. I don't listen to much metal rock, so I am hardly in any position to judge Metallica (other than to say I don't really enjoy their music). As for Springsteen, I have gone in and out on Springsteen for years. I realize that I ought to like him, because I love Graham Parker (who Springsteen claims to have been influenced greatly by) and Arcade Fire (who claim Springsteen is their great influence). And every once in awhile I hear a Springsteen track that I have to admit I love. But something about the Boss puts me off. Maybe it's just my cussed resentment of any artist with the sort of popular success that has eluded the Kinks. As far as See My Friends goes, I would rather have seen Ray do it all with younger bands, to prove what an inspiration he continues to be to new artists. Collaborating with his "peers" (though in truth Ray has no peers!) seems to me like a tired idea. But Ray didn't ask me for my opinion! ;D

a few words of explanation. as fans of two of the greatest rock n roll bands in the world (stones/kinks), we should all consider it our sacred duty to convert the unwashed heathen. we have been infused with an appreciation and reverence for fine music....nay, not fine music...the best music....for the musical gods have given us something that they have taken away from fans of bands like bon jovi: taste. it is up to us, therefore, to make sure that we spread the gospels of mick, keith and ray as far and wide as humanly possible. thus, to see ray working with bon jovi is akin to, say, jesus sharing a popsicle with osama bin laden. of course, those that live in glass houses should not throw rolling stones. mick has oft been tempted by the foul demons of modern day popishness. shudder: gasp (starting @ 0:49): i ask you, what can a poor boy do?

Too funny! Yes, I think that's Nobby in the apesuit. I don't think it's the Abbey Road crossing, though -- probably closer to Highgate or Hampstead, those are more the Kinks' stomping grounds. In this case, literally.
Love the photo of Brenda 'n' Bieber!
