LOVE AND MERCY
You must see this film. It's about Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys -- IMHO a genius on the level of Ray Davies. And rarely has a movie so effectively captured the creative process. (Yes, and also the madness that sometimes accompanies genius.) Both Paul Dano and John Cusack deliver heartfelt, insightful performances as Brian Wilson at various stages of his life. But what makes this film special is how well it conveys that IT'S ALL ABOUT THE MUSIC -- endless scenes in the studio, worrying over the fine points of production, diving into how a genius composer/producer works to produce the music that is already in his head.
I hope and pray that Julien Temple will be as successful as he undertakes his film about the Davies brothers. Because it's not about the bio-pic details -- it's about THE MUSIC.

Trading Places - an American comedy film directed by John Landis starring Dan Aykroyd, Eddie Murphy and Jamie Lee Curtis.
Having seen the movie already when it came out in 1983 a great déjà vu was had by all.
