Thanks for the Drifters run-down, John. I find that, when in doubt, I usually can't go wrong with a Rhino anthology, and you've just confirmed that impression for me. What Rhino should do is to hire you to assemble those anthologies for them!

Indeed HH, for me, seeing is as good as listening. But with Bryan, he looks so good I can even watch him with the sound OFF -- but I highly recommend it played to 10+. Hey B-John. If ya even like Roxy, just a little, this comprehensive DVD tracks their showmanship with great live performances throughout their history.

John, thankyou for the excellent piece about The Drifters! I can't say I know more than a handful of their songs but what I have heard I've liked! Perhaps something to add to my Amazon wish list? (Which seems to be growing almost by the day ) I particularly like Up On The Roof, I believe I posted it on the forum a while ago

I very rarely purchase a music dvd but that sounds like a nice comprehensive introduction to their work - although yes, I know and like some of their work! I'm kind of like sleepwalker in that I may have to put it on 'the list' for awhile!

What Rhino should do is to hire you to assemble those anthologies for them! You're welcome Holly! Rhino is awesome! Their two cd sets for many artists are so packed with the essential songs and amazing booklets that you can tell they employ popular musicologists to make their sets! The Drifters set is just right as far as content but there is a lot of space left on the cds; which Rhino fills to the brim for artists with more extensive catalogs. They do amazing work on their boxsets too; heck almost everything! I have some specific Rhino sets in mind, for sure, to recommend here!

Their pop material that I described is impecable and can't miss stuff! I think you'll enjoy all of that which you aren't already familiar! Most people today don't realize they had such a strong legacy of r & b material in the vein of Ray Charles and the like from the early/mid 50s period I described. They had a little more 'edge' to their early stuff! With the Definitive Soul Collection set, you get the cream of it all and for the price of (or even less than) some of the less comprehensive sets! I don't blame you for putting it on your list for later, though!

Monsieur Armand, I see you are quite skilled at being humble! I'm sure you'd make some great contributions here! But thank you for your kind thoughs and sentiments! This has turned out to be a fantastic thread; if I can allow myself an 'unhumble' moment. There's an old country tune with the line 'Lord it's hard to be humble when you're perfect in every way' ;D and when I found myself riding through Humble, Texas from time to time a few years ago, I thought about how even the most conceited bloke in the world could have a brief taste of 'Humble' if they were only with me right now!

Seconded, John! By the way I put Michael Martin Murphey's "Wildfire" on the "Great Music Videos" thread. Have you ever heard of him? In the affirmative could you recommend a representative collection to the forumers? Thank you.

Martin, I know about him and especially that song but I wouldn't make a recommendation off the top of my head; except he has one famous album 'Cowboy Songs' and he's known for western music in general! I could read up on him and make a suggestion for his best collection later if you'd like?
