I may have mispoke about Cash and Strummer 'duets' as what I meant to refer to was their cover together of Bob Marley's 'Redemption Song'. I will post that on Great Covers in a sec! I have more Johnny Cash stuff by far than of any other artist; and I am still missing quite a bit. So don't worry for now sleepwalker; you've made outstanding choices! And I'm sure you'll aquire some of the Johnny Cash stuff your missing at some point John Ha ha sleepwalker ! I just learned of another new JC release. Volume 2 of his Bootleg Series 'From Memphis to Hollywood' just came out. The 1ST Volume was called 'Personal File' and was essentially home demos he'd done over the years. Many of those were never released in any form and just home doodlings; although some were remarkable like a cover of John Prine's 'Paradise'. Bootleg 2 is very intriguing because it contains early Sun Records demos and alt takes along with rare singles up until the late 60s. It even contains 'Restless Kid' which is a tune I've read Rick Nelson did for Rio Bravo! This looks like a catchall set that takes some of the true rarities from his Bear Family Man in Black boxes with tunes that were on Bear Family's 'Come Along and Ride this Train', which I have. I'll have to review it to see how much I don't have on this new set! There are plans for other Volumes; and unlike Elvis, there are actually things that are 'new' to devoted fans in the continual stream of Cash releases!

Martin, I personally recommend that since you are undecided, the best route is the Elvis 75: Good Rockin' Tonight choice. This is the sure thing choice! You can always add the other suggestions I made as supplements! If money is not a problem afterwards, even if you wanted to go with each period boxsets or the 30Cd box, this would have been a moderate level purchase that would have wet your appetite. If you are going to get just one 'period boxset' I'd go with the King of Rock N Roll: 50s Masters set or the budget boxset 'Elvis Presley' that I mentioned at the end of the article I posted. I would supsect the budget set has little as far as info/booklet, while the King of Rock N Roll has a treasure trove booklet (I have it) and is still in print. There is an old 1992 Longbox version of King of Rock N Roll and a newer 'slipcase' version which might be cheaper (but I'm not sure has the thick booklet?). It's hard for me to say because I don't know your budget requirements but I'd settle for nothing less than Elvis 75: Good Rockin' Tonight if I was only going to make 'one purchase'. Hope this helps! John, thank you for the additional info. I will order today the Elvis 75: Good Rockin' Tonight. It's a really good, thank you for your recommendation!

I wanted Martin to know that I will be delaying for awhile my recommendations for Rick Nelson because I just purchased a new set of his that I'm sure I will be recommending. I have to get it and play it first! I had pieced together a nice fairly comprehensive set for him via a 3 Volume Best of Series, but upon review, saw there was more that I needed and one set filled in all the holes for me! I'm sure it will be my one stop shop recommendation, with the other things in my collection possibly being a perfect supplement for any given period of his career! Sorry for this teaser but I was fully expecting to cover Rick Nelson next; but realized I wasn't exactly prepared like a good Boy Scout myself should be!

Great news Martin! Great purchase! Let us know how it turns out; sound quality, inclusion or not of a nice essay, discographical info etc!

I hope it contains things you don't have/haven't heard as I'm sure this could be a great addition to your collection I have been enjoying both recordings of his prison concerts that I bought recently - simply brilliant! P.s - I will let you and Martin know how I like the E.L.O set when it arrives and I've had chance to listen to it
