Today, i bought village green preservation society, this is the first kinks cd i have bought excluding a greatest hits album.
All i can say is oh my what an album, absolutely superb i love it.
often have disagreements with friends as to who are the biggest bands/british bands, the kinks are in my top three with the beatles and the stones. no one touches them in my opinion.
The Kinks ROCK!!!!!!!

The Kinks ROCK!!!!!!! Quite a coincidence...VGPS was my very first Kinks CD, along with the Ultimate Collection (delivered together from Amazon in autumn 2009). I was overawed. I grew up as a Beatles fanatic, though the Stones were also among my favourites. I knew practically nothing about the Kinks, bad luck. My goodness ...it seems our names are almost the same too! I'm sure I'm a lot older, though! Now the Kinks are number 1 in my estimation.

My boyfriend at the time bought me the 3CD version of VGPS and I loved it from the first time I head it! Its my very favourite album of all time

The Kinks ROCK!!!!!!! That's where I started really delving into what The Kinks really are about, when I found and bought a copy of Village Green at the local FYE. For years and years I felt I was pretty well versed on The Kinks from knowing so much of their radio and MTV material, from "You Really Got Me" to "Lola" to the resurgence they enjoyed in the 1980s with "Come Dancing" and so many others. A significant body of well-known work, but just the tip of the iceberg with the vast number of classics and masterpieces the Davies Brothers have produced that the general public, even the more rock attuned members that are rarely heard in thos mass media formats. So, since 2007 I've been slowly catching up on the Kinks in album form, each new collection holds new revelations...

One of the reasons I love the Kinks is that their more "obscure" work is even better than the hits. (With a couple of exceptions, of course.) Definitely a greater album band than a singles band. And Village Green is the ultimate Kinks album, in many ways. Well, that or Muswell Hillbillies. Or maybe Face to Face. Or maybe State of Confusion.....
