I want to kick off the New Year with this new thread about a great American band - Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, a group with a huge and impressive body of work. Here they are with just one of their biggest hits: Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers - Refugee Enjoy.

Great one Martin! Here's an early one that started a trend for Tom as the sort of narrator of the story! Don't Come Around Here No More

I love Tom's late 70s period because it was grounded in his Byrds and Searchers influences and it was more straight ahead 'power pop' (some marketing hack called it 'new wave') akin to his associates the Dwight Twilley Band (Twilley and Phil Seymour). I kind of felt like he was straying away from that as the 80s went on with the Heartbreakers (still excellent, of course), but this video from 1981's Hard Promises is one of my favs of his power pop style (song and video to match).
