I wonder if it has more to do with the gospel choir than with the holiday. That's not a sound that you usually get with the Kinks. Personally I like it, but I like gospel choirs.

Yea, Thanksgiving Day DOESN'T work in the UK or any other place that doesn't celebrate it. I'm not sure if it works in Canada either, but I know they have their own Thanksgiving Day. Comments KinKcan??? It's all good! I really like Ray's song Thanksgiving Day, but I can see why you think it would'nt work over here. Being English I guess I don't 'get it' the way I would if I was American but I do like the sentiments of the song, about how the children come home for the day and families are together

Yes, SW, it has incredible sentiment and I always thought it transcended past just the "THANKSGIVING DAY" holiday reference. It could include any HOMECOMING of sorts. But Ray wrote it from his observations of our US holiday, which he does so well. Interpretations will vary but I agree with you! KinKcan says NO he no likey

Thats why I like it too Smiley, I know I don't celebrate Thanksgiving but the song reminds me of occasions where the family get together such as Christmas and birthdays
