After "State Of Confusion" is "Give Me People They Want". I think after these albums come to delude me none except single songs that are many.In my opinion the enormous creativity of Ray Davies finished in the album "State Of Confusion". His last great album of The Kinks. It is my humble opinion ...

Interesting point, Lorendavies, thanks for bringing it up…
…quite frankly „Give The People What They Want“ was a deception for me. There are two or three excellent songs on the album, the rest was rock average. And as if Ray had sensed it he and The Kinks released one of the best records ever in 1983: „State Of Confusion“ with a collection of fantastic songs including a tune that would give later the name to Ray‘s musical in the third millenium – „Come Dancing“.
So - has Ray’s creativity run out with the publication of the afore-mentioned album? Possibly yes, possibly not. Let’s bear in mind that Ray and The Kinks had been touring for some 20+ years, writing, recording and producing timeless musical masterpieces. Time took its toll and at one point in time in 1984 body and soul knocked on Ray’s door saying „Hey Man, give us a break“. Ray possibly had to re-position himself in real life. Who was he? Where was he? What would his future life hold in store for him? All these thoughts potentially culminated and led to another new and different (lighter?) approach for songwriting. „Word Of Mouth“, „Think Visual“, „UK Jive“ and „Phobia“ were and are still good albums with excellent songs. But I agree, Lorendavies – and I’m with you! – that the spark of creativity that conceived i.e. „Preservation“ had gone definitely.
Nevertheless Ray had gained and kept up yet an other impressive quality of songwriting in and since the 80’s.

- Martin53 is true !, If we compare groups were still active as The Who, Stones, Paul McCartney, Pink Floyd, Supertramp, Moody Blues, Queen ect ... They reinvented much worse than The Kinks. Despite being in its declining stage best music made them all ...
