It may have been tongue in cheek but I bet the rest of the band think it's true

The rest prolly KNOW it's true...that's why I think RAY was teasing, kind of acknowledging past (& future) issues. That's our RAY!

One thing for sure if they actually do get together it's has to be good...the best kinks shows of all the hundreds I have been at have been when they are on the verge of killing each other...some of the 93 club Phobia tour shows we're like that but the last KinKs tour in 95 things were alittle too smooth with no tension or edge which is the fuel of rock n roll !

well, I'll take 'em anyway I can get 'em....solo-together-wrapped up in a bow!!! But if they DO get together & cymbals (or other) start flying, I'm throwing myself on stage to protect RAY ;D darn, now ya know who my favorite KINK is

I actually tried that several times, here's 2 of those several instances,...once at the infamous Philharmonic Hall show in 71, that was purely to protect and help Ray but at a 93 Phobia club tour show at the Stone Poney in New Jersey I got between Ray and Dave during a near fist fight and difused the situation long enough for both of them to cool down and back off from each other. Crows have SWAT team experience!

Having read the article I took it as tongue in cheek as well. It sounds so "ray-like". Its unfortunate that they have such difficulty as a tour would be terrific. Yes I like the solo stuff but it would be great to see the kinks again. Maybe, but I'm not sure it was tongue and cheek. For awhile now - but especially since around the time he moved out of Ray's house in '05, Dave has been accusing Ray of behaviour that is somewhat on display in recent articles. Whether Dave's assessment of Ray's mental health is accurate or not (I won't detail it here - you'll need to go back and read his old posts if you are interested), I can see why Dave would have reacted the way he did. "All about me". The others existed merely to spark his muse - they - (and let's face it "they" is mostly Dave) did not contribute anything much but to help Ray sharpen his genius. That's how Dave is hearing those words. Now, one could argue Dave is hyper-sensitive, especially considering that he has not been able to tour for 3 1/2 years. Or that he is still very pissed off about the rift that occurred in February (most will recall the great GRAY/RED board split that indirectly sprang up as a result). But why would Ray say these things that he knows will upset Dave? To be cruel? Or is he just clueless about how Dave perceives him? And, under the circumstances, which possibility is worse? I don't mean to bash anyone as I have no answers, only questions. But theirs seems such a sad, dark relationship, and that is so unfortunate when one considers the remarkable body of work that is the Kinks' legacy. Yes, I know the tension sparked the energy and creativity back in the day. But now I only wish them "peace in their time".

PM is fine! ;D Seriously, I appreciate your thoughts, mrsmay. It distresses me to think that these public musings of RAY might be painful for Dave, especially since, as a dedicated follower, I find it all fascinating. I do think RAY is asking for a reunion. This month's issue of UNCUT carries a great spread and RAY signals his wishes yet again. Only Dave will know when & if the time is right.

I think Ray is asking for a reunion as well and only they know what is right for them. I wish them both happiness.

There is something in the Bible about seeing the straw in somebody elses eye, while not seeing the log in ones own.
Every single time I have seen Ray live in the past years he has made warm and and affectionate comments on Dave, crediting for his contribution to the Kinks, and to R&R history.
Every recent interview ha has given, he insists on those positive comments on Dave, and expresses his desire to play and record with Dave and The Kinks again.
There is but one short sentence, in one specific interview, tongue in cheek or not, that may be used to exploit the "Ray Davies as a tirant" vein, and that's the one some prefer to hang on to.
Most musicians in the world would consider it an honor to play with Ray, and I'd be proud to do it anytime, like Mick, like, Ian,...
